I think it's like somebody said on this thread before. He must know something, like Donaire giving up his WBC title.

I could understand if the Ref had instructed Montiel to spit his mouthpiece out on the floor, so he would have to pick it up and wash it... LMAO Wait, I guess Montiel should have done that on his own twice in order to gain more time.... Wait, I'm second thought the Ref should have stopped it... *** outta here... Sulaimon can go pound sand!!!

I can't stand Sulaiman, but he's gotta point. There needs to be consistency!! Back when Kostya Tszyu knocked out Zab Judah, I flipped out when Nady (ref) waived the fight off SECONDS before the end of the second round. Judah got tagged by a right, then got up, fell again, then got up before the count of ten and kept signaling to Nady he was okay. If Nady didn't call it off, the round would've ended and Zab would've had a full minute rest! If the referee was right to call it off back then, then Mora should've done it with Montiel, especially since Montiel wasn't responsive. I know it sounds ****ty, but it's consistent!

The Judah call was wrong because Nady should have gave Zab some time but the Montiel fight was no foul whatsoever. Referee jumped in immediately.

I agree with you. When Montiel got up o the second attempt be jumped around and seemed to settle himself solidly on his feet.

On HUGE problem that fighter, particularly championship calibre guys like Montiel have is that they really have NO EXPERIENCE of being knocked down, and almost no idea as to what to do except "theoretically". They don't have the experience to "take a knee" to get on their "bicycle" or be able to take any real evasive action.

Of course some may be too stunned to react with promptitude, and none of us knows how they guy has really affected by the blow or blows, except what we see on TV. There have been so many documented cases of fighters having suffered heavy blows or knockdowns, who have fought the rest of the fight _and often won- and have NEVER been able to remember a thing about it.

All it tells us is that the brain is a strange organ and reacts differently woth each individual.

I still recall that many MANY years ago, in a fight, I was hit on the ear, and went down, -for the first and only time in my career- rolled and came up without any count, and continued fighting (in those days there was no MANDATORY count, nor head guards neither) and for the rest of the fight I could hear bells ringing inside my head. Yet I won the fight.

I'm pretty sure the ref would've stopped it had he seen it.
I dont know if this is a WBC rule, but i was under the impression it was a unified rule that when i fighter is knocked down and attempts to get back to there feet but falls down again it is an instant ko just like Judah-Tszyu

Mora did what he could. He isn't a bad ref. Every time something happens in a fight people blow **** out of proportion!!!

Steele, Lane, ETC, ETC. They are all human and are not allowed any room for error. Souliman is freakin wrong... If Montiel didn't want to continue he would have stayed on the ground, not try and get back up asap. It wasn't like JCC vs Taylor where Taylor never let go of the ropes and didn't say anything. Montiel was on his feet looking at Donaire if I am not mistaken. Montiel himself said it was the right time for the stoppage.

It was Zab's own fault. He should've stayed on one knee and got up on the 8 count instead of getting up right away with NO legs and doing the chicken dance lol.

I don't think the ref was wrong for not stopping the fight after Montiel was knocked half unconsious, and he DID get up before the count (that was giving the champion the benefit of the doubt), so that was fair not to just wave it off before finding out if he had recovered enough to continue... BUT the whole point of asking a fighter, who has been viciously knocked down, to come forward and give him his gloves, is to see if they still have the wherewithall to continue - and that they're not just getting up by instinct. In this case, Montiel CLEARLY did not respond to any of the commands that the ref gave him. He should have stopped the fight then IMO.

I don't know if Suliman has an alterior motive in doing this, I only know in this case - he's right.

Side note: The Commisions need to send a whole lot more refs back to training school (i.e. Joe "firm but ****ed" Cortez/Lawrence Cole).
