what does it matter how long you live in a place?

depends on how you grow up and how you are raised.

No doubt Tua, but most of those cases are the parents. Majority of the parents don't learn the language and might not consider themselves American but their children certainly are. I remember the first time when I went to my buds and how weird his house was. Chinese **** everywhere and his parents were very strange, I'd never consider them to be American even if they technically are but the children, they are just like me. Nonito is probably just like that.

Americans didnt exactly embraced him as one of their own when he was starting out. He didnt have any fanbase at all.. He just came out of nowhere when he fought Darchinyan. And even after that, it was the Filipino and Fil-American fans that followed him and his career more closely than the American fans. There was a reason he cameback and stayed longer in the Philippines than the US after the Darchinyan fight. He wanted to build his fanbase in the Philippines, because he wasnt getting much following in the US.

The guy holds 2 passports, thus making him a citizen of both countries except that Nonito prefers to be identified more as a Filipino fighter more than an American, hence the title of "Filipino Flash"..

now he's had more press , now his fights have been televised there , now he's had fights in philippines post-darchinyan.

he came to america as a teenager. it's not like he came here when he was a baby.

the guy speaks TWO filipino languages fluently. you know you can be raised in a different culture than where you live right?

that's why arum had him and viloria fight in the philippines a couple times. to build up their fanbase there as filipino-americans.

Lets be honest. Most Filipinos weren't fans of Donaires because they considered him American since he moved here when he was a young boy. He was even begging them to root for him after he knocked Darchinyan out because he knew himself they didn't support him. But now watch all of the Filipinos claim him since he's a great fighter. In my eyes he's an American but I don't blame the Filipinos for trying to claim him because half of us would probably do the same. I'm just saying though.
