This thread taught me that Mike Tyson's best win came against a blown up light heavyweight.

And that his resume as well as his career are both a product of boxing media mythology.

      And lore.

      We can't forget about lore.

Lewis had been KOed by Mcall and got a disputed decison over Mercer.

Holyfield was regarded as better than Lewis at the time. Seldon and Bruno were obviously worse fighters than Lewis but they was still champions so not really a duck Tyson fighting them instead.

Last week, Lewis's manager, FRANK MALONEY , blamed King for holding up the signing by asking for more money. Maloney said W.B.C. rules entitled Lewis to 80 percent of the $12.2 million purse, but that King demanded a 75-25 split instead. (AP)

He was the Champion so he was entitled to 80% of the purse, against Tyson he would be the challenger and entitled to only 20% of the purse.
Do you see the difference? The total fight purse for Tyson-Lewis would of been around $35-40M, hence Lewis should of accepted the 10m offer

Agreed, his resume is no better than the Klits.......but at least he took his opposition out a lot more faster and brought more fans into the sport......

Holyfield was regarding as old. There were calls for the fight to be scrapped in fear of Holyfields safety.

He doesn't really have one stand out win

He had the potential to be a great fighter, but he lacked the dedication and discipline to realize that potential

Still Holyfield was the bigger draw and it made Tyson more than a Lewis fight would.

Razor Rudduck, Tyson looked good and patient in this tough fight.

Most fighters were beat before they stepped in the ring.
Spinx was shaking in his boots before the fight even started.

Good point. It was seen as a low risk/high reward fight
