The result brings a scathing attack from Jay Larkin, senior vice-president of Showtime TV sport. He alleges Lennox has no genuine intention of facing Tyson.

"It's totally untrue to suggest Tyson is afraid of Lewis," stresses Larkin, whose company has exclusive rights to Mike.

"Lewis is welcome in a ring with Tyson on July 13 and we will pay him 10 million dollars - the biggest purse of his life.

"Lewis and his people have refused. In their greed they have tied themselves to HBO
"All their talk of shaming Tyson into fighting is bluff. Lewis is simply not available. Unless he gets three of the HBO contracts there is no possibility of him meeting Mike."

Larkin reveals they are courting Evander Holyfield for July instead. And he insists the legal ban on Tyson boxing anybody but Lewis will be overturned.

Says Larkin: "Sadly, Tyson is now trying to abandon the WBC belt to get on with his life. Lennox Lewis can pick it out of a trash can - again."

Eliades confirms: "We have turned down Showtime's offer because we'd prefer to put on the fight ourselves. We can pay Tyson 45 million dollars.

"It is not correct that we can't box for Showtime. If they up their bid to 15 million, they have got themselves a fight!"

Agree. Spinks was a world beater before he ran into Tyson.

That isn't necessarily a good thing. He wasn't mature enough to to taking on that kind of responsibility at that age

"Lewis successfully sued to try to force Tyson to make a mandatory defense of the WBC title against him or force Tyson to give up the title, winning a four million dollar settlement from promoter Don King. Rather than fight Lewis, Tyson relinquished the WBC belt to fight Evander Holyfield, and the title was declared vacant"

I'm sick of hearing about these excuses about Mike Tyson that when he lost he was past his prime or his prime didn't last long, well the fact of the matter is his career ******. If only Tyson did this or if only Tyson did that, well his didn't and he was an average boxer who lost to bums! He did not have the dedication and the mentality of a great boxer. His best win was against Michael Spinks who imo was never was a legitimate heavyweight champion (but he was one of the best light-heavy).

                      lol
That's not what happened. After Tyson came out of prison he was made the no 1 challenger for the wbc belt, which Bruno held. Lewis took the wbc to court to stop the fight saying that it was unfair that Tyson got a shot at the title before him, the judge overruled him, but did state that the winner of Tyson-Bruno had to fight Lewis. The step aside money was so that Tyson could unify with Sheldon(wba champ) and then he would start the negotiations for a fight with Lewis. Lewis agreed, after the Sheldon fight they would start talks with Lewis demanding 15m, with Tyson and King stating he only deserved 10m.

Rather than pay him that amount they vacated the belt instead.

King has been saying that Tyson would rather drop his title than agree to Lewis' demand for more than the $10 million purse being offered. Lewis was seeking $15 million.
