The only resemblance is that Mayweather and Leonard both retired and waited for there opponent to decline before taking the fight.

I don't really talk about ducking because most people throw the word around to loosely so it lacks meaning, but if there was ever 1 fight that really deserved a rematch in boxing history it is that one~
Think whatever you want about it, some Leonard fans can live with that poor look from him, some wish he would have ran it back and ended a debate that still goes on to this day.

Hagler didn't have to give him a chance.
They are rated about the same, even if Leonard is above it has nothing to do with that fight because it was razor thin and so disputed. Leonard could have silenced all that but was not confident enough to do it.
You can be happy with that win if you want, many Ray Leonard fans are but some would have liked him to give Hagler a rematch as they felt it was owed considering the situation.
For a boxing debate over a fight to go on for damn near 30 years, is not nearly as definitive as you are making it out to be.

Hagler wants rematch. Leonard retired.
Hagler retires. Leonard comes back.
How is that for ducking?
All I know is 04/06/87 Leonard>Hagler..... That's all that matters

Opinions about what happened that night swing wildly, but the funny thing is I thought Leonard won also but I realize that lots of people disagree with that and Leonard was none to interested in silencing those critics of his perfomance.
If you think that is a good look that is on you not me, so think whatever you like.

He claimed he was high and when he got out there he wasn't sure what he was going to say. He had another quote where he watched the Hagler-Mugabi fight I believe, and told his people to try and make the fight with Hagler afterwards.
Found it, pretty interesting read for those who haven't seen it.

srl sat on the sidelines for years between the howard fight, and hagler, when many (including myself) felt he could have made a fight with hagler, while hagler was closer to his prime...many thought, that srl would never announce a comeback, after watching the hagler that destroyed a better boxer than himself in hearns, safely from the sidelines, and that proved to be correct, but he would definitely find the hagler, who looked slower and hittable against mugabi, would be a better chance to take...

Opinions vary~ and Leonard had it in him to silence all doubt he was straight on that.
So whatever~ I already said I thought Leonard won he just should have made it clear beyond all doubt he was the better man, then we wouldn't be having this conversation.
