Leonard admitted that he decided to fight Hagler after seeing how he had declined. He even had a big event with all these people in the audience, including Hagler, and announced he wouldnt face Hagler.
But to be fair to Ray, he was competing at a division 13 pounds below Marvin. It's not like Hagler cared to fight the light heavyweights who expressed interest in facing him.

Hold a huge event in a boxing ring call Hagler up and talk about how it would be a great fight between great champions. Then saying "To bad it is never going to happen"
Pure comedy would ensue IMO.

Hagler Leonard is one of the most talked about controversial decisions in history and then Leonard refused to then hear talks of a rematch when Hagler gave him a shot in the first place.
How did that fight not deserve a rematch~ people flip now about garbage ass fights if they don't have a rematch if it was sort of close, so I can't even imagine what it would be like if one of the biggest fights of the decade went down like that then the dude that won is like "nah I'm good"

If Hagler didn't play around the first 3 or 4 rds results and history might have been different.....
