lol... I understand you're British, but you need to either A) rewatch that fight and watch Hatton get destroyed and saved by the ref or B) get glasses.Comment

Gatti's prime weight may have been the lower weightclasses, but consider the experience and skills development throughout the later stages of careers. Sure, Gatti was a really good slugger, but he learned to box pretty well later on.
Just the thought of putting in a 140lbs Gatti (who was still damn good) in against Katsidis/Hatton @ 140 would make for pure excitement. That's really mostly what I had in mind when making this fantasy tourney matchup because all fighters (except maybe Katsidis, we don't know yet) are certainly effective at 140, though I expected Hatton to be a clear winner.
Gatti won world titles at 130, but later on he won a world title at 140 AFTER that vicious trilogy with Ward. I would say Gatti @ 140lbs is near prime or prime.Last edited by boxingsmash69; 01-20-2011, 12:12 AM.Comment

I agree 110%. Hatton in his prime is an A class fighter. It's just Pacquiao and Mayweather are A++ class. Hell, the Hatton that fought Pac/Floyd wasn't even prime anymore thanks to his blowing up in weight lifestyle and Tszyu.People seriously need to reassess what B and C level fighters actually are. Hatton was A class. You don't win fights against Tszyu and Castillo or pitch shutouts against Malignaggi and Urango if you're just average. Hatton's only two official losses are against the two best P4P fighters of the last few years, and no one can accuse him of having a weak resume.Comment

I don't think Gatti really learned any new boxing skills at 140, he just went back to them more. He was in a boxing mode at 130 when he won the title from Patterson.Comment
