I think the reason people are wondering is because Martinez wants to fight better fighters IE Pac, Mayweather, Cotto etc....

Is this guy mandatory byt the commission or the network??

He is not a mandatory, he is the 154lb champ, arguably the best JMW right now, he is the longest reigning title holder in the division.

HBO really wants this fight it seems, which is weird cuz' they should really want a Martinez-Pirog instead.

ok cool, just wanted to know what the actuall deal with this stance was..

I'm not even really bummed about the fight per say, i was more bothered that HBO wants to do it head to head with Cotto'd PPV, NOT COOL!!

I'd like to see Pirog against better competition, to be honest.

I don't understand the hard stance from HBO, but I just hope they have this hard stance with every fighter.

Martinez and Cotto deserves low risk fights. Martinez, for coming off of two Williams fights and the Pavlik fight, and Cotto for coming off of a shoulder surgery. However HBO deserves to spend its money how they see fit.

If I was HBO, I would pony up the cash for Cotto/Mayorga. I wouldn't stiff their most popular fighter outside of Pac/Mayweather. Mayorga makes for good TV. I certainly would have snubbed Cotto/Martiyosan. I think HBO would have taken Cotto/Mayorga but Arum is acting like an ex-girlfriend.

I'm curious to see if after Mosley fight pops off, if HBO will take the hard stance on Pacquaio's next fight as well. We know it won't be against Mayweather. I also am wondering if they'll bend to Mayweather as well when he comes out of vacation.

The issue is that HBO always aired crap fights and allowed promoters to take advantage of HBO upping their money, and now they're having a problem reigning in all those loose cannons. If Berto is dropped and they stop being *****ed around by the big boys, then we'll take HBO seriously. So far, so good.

What? Do the same to their fav boy? ... Nah, I don't think it will happen.lol

Wait, is the 2.4 million that HBO is offering (not 100% confirmed) just for the purses or total broadcast expenses? If it's the former, than what's the problem with Dzinziruk getting paid $1 million and Martinez getting the rest?

Now, if it is the latter, than obviously they cannot afford to give up almost half of the fight budget for Dzin's salary.
