  • Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez Given No Out By HBO: Dzinziruk or Step

BoxingScene.com was advised that HBO has given Sergio Martinez (26-2, 25KOs) no alternatives for his televised return on March 12. The network has advised Martinez to fight unbeaten WBO 154-pound champion Sergei Dzinziruk (37-0, 23KOs). If Martinez is unable to finalize an agreement with Dzinziruk, the WBC middleweight champion will lose his reserved date on the network.

Wow! Not cool to see a network play matchmaker but at least they aren't standing for the BS in 2011. Now if they'd just tell Richard, Bob and Al the same thing...

In a way it's good that HBO is doing this but they also need to treat others the same, not just Sergio. I wish they were a lot more strict like this with Berto.

Sergio Martinez should just say screw HBO and go to Showtime and try and fight the winner of the 168 Super Middleweight Tournament.

Dzinziruk has a minimum and is demanding 1 million $?

wtf is going on here, how do these managers/fighters/promoters come up with there economics. Hardcore fans barely mention this guy yet somehow he's worth 1 mill.

If I'm HBO I tell these promoters stop guaranteeing your fighters so much damn $. Without HBO he wouldn't sniff 200k let alone a mill.

The business structure of boxing is completely F#cked.

I'm beginning to think what Hauser wrote is spot on and Taffet & co. may not have the leeway they once did.

if its for another major title, martinez should take it to look to unify the titles.

but ide rather see him face pirog and or winky wright.

also kirkland should be put in the mix..

maybe a tournament for middleweight division to be unified again:

                  Martinez(WBC)
                  Sturm(WBA)
                  Pirog(WBO)
                  Sebastian Sylvester(IBF)
                  Peter Manfredo Jr(IBO)
                  Winky Wright
                  Chavez Jnr
                  James Kirkland

This is ******ed, HBO needs to get their head out of their asses in this situation. I understad they are trying to get rid of the BS fights, but you cant play matchmaker and force the issue.
