Totally disagree... you can't blame what happened to PWill on one punch on his trainer... His style is a very high paced style...and quite frankly it is a very efficient style. He has smothered many opponents with it.. His problem has been over-aggressiveness. He gets caught off guard coming in, often times while throwing... a bit wreckless.. He can use help defensively to avoid taking all that punishment. But to blame his trainer for the loss is a bit much. Paul JUST GOT CAUGHT... Plain and simple. Sergio is just better than Paul. Coach or no coach.

The best trainer for Williams would be Manny Steward. He is great at training tall fighters with a long reach. He would have Paul boxing more and on his toes constantly using his jab. He would teach him to let the opponent walk into the right hand instead of chasing his opponent with it. The same is true with the uppercut. Paul would be close to being unbeatable fighting in this style.

new trainer yes, yes - immediate rematch, no
hiring a new trainer isnt a bad idea but an immediate rematch with martinez, imo wont be so great. williams needs to work on some technical adjustments and issues regarding his style and try them out in the ring before a rematch with martinez.
excuse the 2 "yes'' in the title.............. typoLast edited by Al_Jones718; 01-04-2011, 08:44 AM.

For posters who say "Willaims is what he is". You're wrong. He does WHATEVER Peterson tells him to followed by a Yes sir.
Look at the Cintron fight. Peterson told him to wait and he did just that. He told him to turn up the heat and he did just that.
He ALWAYS listens to his trainer. Hes not Jermain Taylor.

From what Ive seen PWill has a right to a third match. He got caught like any fighter can get caught so all the "retire" talk is unjustified. I also believe that with a couple of defensive tweeks that Paul can win easy.
Now who can teach him to fight tall and throw straight punches? I dont think Naseem is the man. I have a lot of respect for Mr. Richardson the man but the lastest training results have left me unimpressed. Just like any trainer I believe he is right for the right fighter. Not in Pwill's case tho. As much as it pains me to say it, I see the right trainer being Steward. He is not my favorite guy and sometimes he is intolerable as a commentator but he makes big bucks with rangey fighters (Hearns, Lewis). He apparently teaches good tall man defense(a stiff jab) and the art of throwing your punches up the middle both of which Paul needs to climb back in the picture. And you know he would give his right arm to train another " Hitman" hint hint I aint talkin bout Ricky Hatton.

i don't know about Richardson anymore used to think he was great but now im not so sure
either way Paul is who he is he won't change now and if he tries to that could be even worse for him to try and change his style after all this time
he should just stick with what he has been doing it's worked so far
in Martinez he just ran into a guy that is really reaching his peak as a fighter and he had alot to prove also, he was so motivated to win that fight you can tell
go back down to 147 would be my advice
