Nobody in boxing is a "household name". FM and Pac come as close as you can get for a professional sport with a relatively small knowledgeable fan base. With that in mind, you can fill in the blank with just about any opponent and FM or Pac will do good numbers.

Get it done Manny! Pick Berto > JMM > Bradley > Alexander

I respect Arum. I don't like a lot of the ***** he comes up with (and I def don't agree with his politics) but he knows how to do his job which is to guide his fighters' careers and put them in line to swell their pockets. Manny's gotta stand up now and write his own final chapters.

Berto is a better b side than clottey. This fight does 1M plus with a 24/7 easy. If Pac wins, he's the undisputed unified ww champ. Then he gets pbf or waits for Jmm or a top jww to rise up or Sergio at a catch. I like this scenario over mosley...all roads lead to manny pac.

I'd actually want to see Bradley vs Pac provided Bradley takes care of business against Alexander. Even before Berto. Pac weighed in at 143 for Margarito right? Bradley's about to mostly clean up 140 (besides Khan who Pac won't fight most probably). Totally do-able.

JMM at this point...at any weight above 135 (which Pac won't go down to)...I think gets smashed by Pac.

it will be interesting to see what kind of revenue projections they would have for a potential Berto-PAC fight...the die-hard will definitely tune in and pay to watch...however, Berto isn't really a household name...Arum would have to dig into those pockets to give PAC a good guarantee and he would have to eat the losses if the fight doesn't sell AS much

as for the actual matchup, it would seem like a move strictly based on 'challenge' as he takes on the younger fighter but im not sure if Berto will fare any better than Shane....Berto is a fighter with stamina issues and is a sucker for straight lefts...not a good trait when going into a mega fight with PAC
Arum is convinced a Mosley fight would do big business. At this point, I don't agree but Bob knows the promotional game inside and out. He knew the Margarito fight would do big #s when a lot of people (myself not included, I predicted 1.2 mil buys) figured it would bomb. But Mosley is 39 and looked absolutely done in his 2 PPV fights this year. There's no historical precedent on the line, no belt, no live challenge, just a name that some recognize.

I think if Arum nudges DiBella aside and actually promotes Berto, it could do well $ wise. Sell the idea that this is the first time Pac is fighting an undefeated, young, slick, BLACK fighter in a unification bout. I think the race angle could bring a lot of attention to the fight just like Hopkins' comments set off a fire storm in the media and boards like this.

Mark Taffet, the head of HBO PPV, said that when Floyd fights, the African-American demographic (especially in the East and Mid-West) goes up about 40% as opposed to when Manny fights. So if Berto is sold as the 'Great Black Hope' then that new demographic might tune in and with the usual Pac PPV subscribers buying, then that's 1 mil+ buys. Plus the hardcore boxing fans would get up for this one I think.

All depends on Pac holding the line for Berto, and how DiBella and Arum's promotional relationship pans out. Lou didn't seem amiable to a buy out when Cotto-Martinez was first discussed, so we'll see.

If it was Martinez, there wouldn't be a problem

Pac laying someone the fk out unlike taking them the distance a la Margarito/Clottey...back to how he did Hatton in...would still be entertaining. More entertaining than him getting hurt by Margarito about once or twice surrounded by Pac pasting Marg all night and then carrying him to a decision. It'd also create buzz.

'The Great Black Hope' angle...that might sell...but that's gonna be a sad bunch after a couple of rounds

Get that ****** **** out of here. Only ******s and blind haters would truly expect Pac to fight Martinez as he is now. Martinez can't come down to 147 and Pac gets murdered by Martinez if Martinez gets to weigh in at 155 or greater.
