Maybe he feels with their chin tucked in and gloves covering the chin and temple, that the uppercut isn't that dangerous a punch. Uppercut's can be ruthless, but when the chin is tucked in, maybe Roach see's it as something that isn't too big a deal. There is no other explanation to it for me.
    Exactly how I saw it
Khan was definitely happier taking those uppercuts up close than the big hooks
It wasn't the best plan, though.

As a trainer you go over tactics in the gym 1 million times over. If Kahn was losing the fight or needed to change tactics in the ring then I would agree with you but what simply happened was Kahn got caught, nothing more.

It wasn't as if he was doing something wrong or allowing Maidana to do something that he wasn't in the earlier rounds.

Kahn was boxing beautifully, doing what he needed to do to win the fight and simply got caught with an over hand looping right.

Theres nothing that Roach should have told or could have told him that would have made Kahn avoid a shot like that. He just got careless for a split second, dropped his left and got caught.

Khan said in an interview that Roach told him Maidana had no jab, and he was surprised by how effective it was.

If he'd stuck to the body, Maidana might not have made it through the fight.

I think Roach's defense for Uppercuts is to use movement to nullify it. Marg missed alot of his uppercuts from Pac leaning/stepping back. Both Pac and Khan use a high guard, uppercut works well against a high guard. What do these guys expect Roach to do, make them drop an arm to block the uppercut and leave their face open for a cross/hook?

Neither Pac or Khan lean in much (passive defense for uppercuts) and they both use good movement. Neither guy will nullify uppercuts but I think since its the one punch that snaps their head back fairly regularly, people over-react to its effectiveness.

                This.
Think how close Khan was to winning to what then actually happened in the fight. Khan might try close the show next time. One punch is all it took to make maidana look like he had been shot, so theoretically one more punch is all khan needed.

Khan landed one big shot to the liver, it wasn't a result of him going to the body over and over and then hurting him.

Also, in order for you to go to the body, you have to get in close and you open yourself up to counters. It's the same logic Cotto fans didn't understand when Cotto didn't go to the body as much as they wanted him to against Margarito.

Khans and Roach's game plan was PERFECT. Use the jab to control Maidana and move and keep your back off the ropes. They did that perfectly and if Maidana didn't land that looping right hand, this fight would have been a blow out, not even close.

Kahn was getting hit with uppercuts BECAUSE of the right hand that hurt him. After he was hurt, he resorted to covering up and staying on the ropes allowing Maidana to tee off on him with uppercuts and right hands.

Roach and Khan did nothing wrong game plan wise, Kahn just got caught that is all.

The gameplan clearly wasn't perfect, what about eating all those uppercuts?
Khan landed the bodyshot after Maidana covered up from jabs and straight rights
He had no answer for the combination's and speed, his body was there to be hit.
