roach said he was scared maidana might counter with the overhand right. that's maidana's most dangerous punch and he was throwing it all night.

those uppercuts weren't landing until khan started rope-a-doping, and rope-a-doping wasn't part of the gameplan.

Khan landed the bodyshot after Maidana covered up from jabs and straight rights
He had no answer for the combination's and speed, his body was there to be hit.
i gotta agree. i woulda told khan to go back to the body, but roach was scared or the overhand right counter from maidana.

What do these guys expect Roach to do, make them drop an arm to block the uppercut and leave their face open for a cross/hook?

Neither Pac or Khan lean in much (passive defense for uppercuts) and they both use good movement. Neither guy will nullify uppercuts but I think since its the one punch that snaps their head back fairly regularly, people over-react to its effectiveness.
yep, it seems roach doesn't teach his guys how to block the uppercut. he prefers for them not to be in situations where they have to block it, for instance lingering on the ropes.

Also, in order for you to go to the body, you have to get in close and you open yourself up to counters. It's the same logic Cotto fans didn't understand when Cotto didn't go to the body as much as they wanted him to against Margarito.

Khans and Roach's game plan was PERFECT. Use the jab to control Maidana and move and keep your back off the ropes. They did that perfectly and if Maidana didn't land that looping right hand, this fight would have been a blow out, not even close.

Kahn was getting hit with uppercuts BECAUSE of the right hand that hurt him. After he was hurt, he resorted to covering up and staying on the ropes allowing Maidana to tee off on him with uppercuts and right hands.

Roach and Khan did nothing wrong game plan wise, Kahn just got caught that is all.
It was actually a 2 punch combo to the body, one either side. Both hooks and the latter followed right after. He threw it so quickly and well timed he wasn't that exposed.

So I think in fairness to Khan it was intended. He was hitting the body at clever times throughout the fight I thought, particularly early to tire Maidana.

Although I have some complaints of Khan's in ring tactics and generalship, I actually credit him here because he was clever enough to land these good body shots, and not get carried away either and take too many over hand rights. He got the balance roughly, and I mean roughly, ok.

            That's coming from Khan, post-fight
I thought Maidana used his below par jab well, he would've taken even more punishment moving in if he hadn't thrown it.

IMO i think that Frddie knows Khan would have folded if he were to yell and be really hard on him, mentally I think Khan is a little soft, and if Freddie would have made him feel like he wasnt getting the job done Khan may have been knocked out. Because any other time Freddie is yelling cussin and all

Roach has done enough advising Khan in offense and defense so its time that Khan will do his end of the bargain

A trainer can only do so much, at the end of the day its the fighter's duty to get the job done inside the ring.
