For the first time, Martinez is holding cards.

It's amazing how people accuse the stars of cherry picking all the time, but as soon as the "warriors" gain leverage they act the same exact way.
Alfredo Angulo is a lot easier fight than Cotto or Margarito. Besides it's not like Margarito or Cotto is guaranteed money. Sure it's guaranteed good HBO money, but if they want to put the fight on PPV who knows if the fans will buy it. Martinez isn't Pacquiao and a great fight like Cotto Margarito did 500k around then. Granted that's a lot of buys, but I'd rather it be on WCB.

I suppose Martinez is due for a softer opponent, after beating Pavlik and Williams last year.

I wonder how many people that a ripping Zbik have seen him fight (I'm sure some of you have). He's 30-0-0 with 10KO's so clearly not a big puncher. I've never seen him fight though so I'm downloading his last fight right now. Don't know much about him other than his name...

Angulo's easier, but he's still a puncher. No incentive to fight a puncher when HBO will pay you WCB money to fight a guy like Zbik in the interim.

I'd rather it be on WCB too, but it just won't be. I'd be willing to bet Sergio would make at least 2 million guaranteed plus bonuses. 2 million is about double his career high already. Cotto-Martinez would do over 400k which would produce good upside for each fighter.

Kevin Malone, I've seen several of his fights and I can tell you he's no match for Martinez.

            Here's his Spada fight:

              lolol,

Universum is still one of the most powerfull boxing promotions in the world. that is the only reason why Zbik is interim champ and is going to fight Martinez next.

Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell was going to be inked by Universum after they had turned pro. Im glad they didnt even though they would have been regular champions ealier/already.

This is the problem right here. They shouldn't pay Martinez, even though he's coming off two great wins. He wants a payday, he should fight someone good for it.

Thanks. Just watched the first 2 rounds of his last fight and he looks like he's a skilled and well-trained boxer who is good at everything. He doesn't look awkward at all, he doesn't seem to be great at any one thing, and doesn't have any pop. That's my simpleton analysis from 2 rounds and a look at his record.

I don't see how he gives Sergio any problems at all.
