Joe Cortez never deducted points for holding on Kahn he did a poor job all night. Joe is not a top notch ref anymore due to his old age and poor judgement he ruined the fight

Khan doesn't need to give Maidana a rematch. Maidana did all he could in the fight within the limits of his ability and couldn't even put Khan on the canvas. You're using Cortez as an excuse. His effect on the fight was minimal. Give Khan the credit he deserves.

And in a rematch, Khan will realise that he has to fight his own fight and not get drawn into a battle. The fight will be much easier second time round. He doesn't need to prove his chin now. In fact he doesn't need to prove anything.

Good win for Khan. Mad props to both Khan and Maidana. Never thought Khan had that much heart and never knew Maidana can cojones that huge. Althought it kinda surprises me that the scores ended up being that close even with the knockdowns and Cortez (who btw proved again why he needs to stop getting the big fights)

Did anyone else think of Juanma-Mtgawa while watching this fight?

Good post. I agree with you. But, there is always hating on forums. I think its immaturity, or just ******ity.

I am Argentinian, and Khan won that fight. Maidana showed balls, and I would watch him any day of the week.

Great fight, i got Khan ahead by 1-2 rds. Scoring was fine, but Cortez wasnt, he is obviously corrput, its not the first time that happened, right at the start i thought what the hell is wrong, why does he break the fighters all the time when the arms were free?

It was a clear disadvantage to Maidana the way Cortez judged that fight.

But Khan was still impressive, Maidana should have landed one more big punch in the 10th and it would ve been over but he was gassed too and totally exhausted. FOTY 2010, sadly there will be no rematch, Roach will stay far far away from Maidana, and the other 140 LBS guys as well i fear, he s too small to go up to WW, maybe a rematch with Kotelnik or the Bradley / Alexander loser.

What are you talking about? Hurt all right, or night? Either way a ****** comment. He was hurt in that one round a few times. Never hurt bad. He wasn't stumbling around the ring unconscious, or even got knocked down.

Come on, another big shot would've finished. Khan obviously deserved to win, and he took Maidana's best shots and came through it well but theres no need to pretend he wasn't rocked a couple of times.

Even the best fighters get hurt, although I do disagree with BPP putting it in the thread title, shows a lack of respect for Khan's performance and doesn't tell the full story at all.

I guess I was right. Khan would win by UD and the ref would play a big part in this match by hassling Maidana and eventually deducting a point from him. The fight was still awesome. Lots of back and forth between the two. I couldn't believe Maidana was able to get back up from that vicious liver shot. Khan also showed some great heart by somehow staying up after getting rocked multiple times in the later half of the fight. Just a really great fight, even though I was rooting for Maidana to win. Congratulations to Khan and much respect for both fighters.

Utter bs. Khan didnt go down, and at no point stopped defending himself. He kept the guard up, moved, held, but had not lost control of his surroundings. You should read the rules.

Accept Khan won, and that he is the 140lbs King.
