And it also sounded to me that they just dont want the fight. Martinez and his promoter are willing to give them the bigger share but they could only go so far. Why cant they do a co promotion when in the past they have done them? They are at least trying to negotiate while arum and cotto aren't.i agree but bending over for the 3rd biggest draw in boxing and bending over for a guy who couldnt draw flies to **** in Williams are 2 totally different things.
I just re-read the article and it just sounded like Cotto wanted to get paid (also this is coming from Arum so take that for what its worth)Comment

true enough, cotto and marg gets murked by martinez.Yea but thats is not the problem lou and martinez are willing to recieve less even though hes the champ. The problem is that arum and cotto just dont want the fight they dont want to do a co promotion when in the past They have done co promotions with lou like when they did the martinez pavlic fight. Arum doesnt want another of his stars to get beat by martinez.
time for martinez to fight real MWs I guess.Comment

Yup. I think that Arum's disinterest in co-promotions does hurt the sport some BUT I do understand his position. It's not a coincidence that he's personally built up some of the biggest draws in the sport from the ground up (Oscar, Floyd, Manny, etc) and been involved in the biggest events ever. He puts a lot of $ and effort into turning his fighters into mainstream draws and revenue generators. I'd be apprehensive about sharing the pot with a 'promoter' who does nothing beyond booking open dates that were handed down to him by HBO.exactly! martinez can't be begging cotto for a fight then start making demands.
yes, sergio is the better fighter, he's the lineal MW champ, he's p4p top 5 if not #3. But if your promoter can't promote you for jack ***** of course you will always be taking short money in every superfight.
the problem is not arum, the problem is dibella. he can't do jack ***** for martinez. I bet if king was martinez's promoter, martinez would be making a lot more money and probably would get the fight w/ cotto.
I mean Martinez is the lineal MW champion and has movie star looks, a guy like that in Arum's hands would be a huge draw at this point in his career, but under Dibella, no one outside of hardcore fans has any clue who he is. So Arum has a choice of matching up Cotto with Margarito, two fighters he turned into stars, whose first fight did 500K PPV and both of them are bigger and more recognizable now... or share the pot with a glorified HBO booker who can't even promote a talent like Martinez... sort of an easy decision from his vantage point.Comment

arum is acting like a bully, this is true. but dibella got nothing to throw back at arum. And it also sounded to me that they just dont want the fight. martinez is sooooooooooooooo easy to sell to the public. he's a gentleman. doesn't beat women. polite. handsome. exciting style. great skills. etc... his only drawback is he can't speak a lick of english. the fact that dibella can't sell this guy to the general public is criminal negligence.Yup. Well arum does work for cotto. If cotto really wanted the fight it would get done. And like the article says that arum has said that it was cotto himself that told him that they didnt want to do a split in the money like most fights are done. Instead they wanted to give martinez a set fee which isnt fair considering it would land in ppv plus the site fee tickects and all the other stuff involved. Doesnt that sound even a little messed up considering hes the champ?Comment
