I think Arum is wrong trying to keep everything in-house, but let's be real here... Cotto is far and away the bigger star/draw. If Sergio wants to be a PPV fighter and fight the likes of Cotto/Pacquiao/etc, seems like he should try to buy out Dibella himself otherwise it's back to HBO after dark in Indian Casinos.
Cotto is on top popularity wise but Martinez is on top
of the sport of boxing and a legit champion/challenger
and opportunity for Cotto. No one can say that this fight
should not happen at 154/55 because Arum wants to keep
all the money. Martinez put his title up and let Cotto keep
his, so even if Cotto was to lose he would still be a champ.
Martinez stock went up after the Paul KO. Arum is keeping
his fighters in house and that's all it is. Clottey was a dud
popularity wise and he still got shot at Cotto and as usual
Arum kept all the money. Martinez is legit and would make
Cotto money as well. It's a good fight on paper.

Martinez should get the Cotto/Margarito winner. If Margarito wins, he'll be a credible opponent again for Martinez.

        beggars can't be choosers.

the problem is not arum. the problem is dibella. he can't promote for *****. all he does is ask networks for dates and call up boxing websites. that's why martinez has to continually take short money.

If cotto really wanted this fight he could easily get it done. The guy does good numbers so arum must listen.

Fans always points the finger at the promoter becuz its designed that way. Hence the slogan after every fight. These guys have MANAGERS for a reason!

I told yall cotto aint taking this fight.

Cotto-Margarito II makes much more money than Cotto-Martinez and Arum keeps all the money for himself that's what it comes down to. Boxing is a business and Arum is calling the shots these days. If Martinez wants what Cotto has, he'd drop his booking agent and get with a real promoter. Megafights (both literally and financially) with Cotto, Margs, Chavez Jr, maybe even Pac would be lined up for Sergio if he was with Arum. But as it stands, he'll have to settle for a mandatory that will sell 3,000 tickets at an Indian Casino because Dibella doesn't have any pull or power whatsoever beyond a few slots on HBO after dark.

Sad, but the business is brutal. It is what it is.

yet again Arum shows his unwillingness to make a fight outside of his Top Rank stable. The mosely fight will get done, because Shane will say YES to everything.

of course cotto isn't gonna take this fight unless he's getting paid very well for it.

                martinez murks him.

They should do a co promotion like all fights are done. Martinez and his promotor cannot always be bending over and taking it all the time there comes a time where they have to stand up like rite now when he is the middle weight champ bc if they dont every top fighter will try to bully them to get the bigger share of the pie. i agree but bending over for the 3rd biggest draw in boxing and bending over for a guy who couldnt draw flies to **** in Williams are 2 totally different things.

I just re-read the article and it just sounded like Cotto wanted to get paid (also this is coming from Arum so take that for what its worth)

exactly! martinez can't be begging cotto for a fight then start making demands.

yes, sergio is the better fighter, he's the lineal MW champ, he's p4p top 5 if not #3. But if your promoter can't promote you for jack ***** of course you will always be taking short money in every superfight.

the problem is not arum, the problem is dibella. he can't do jack ***** for martinez. I bet if king was martinez's promoter, martinez would be making a lot more money and probably would get the fight w/ cotto.

Yea but thats is not the problem lou and martinez are willing to recieve less even though hes the champ. The problem is that arum and cotto just dont want the fight they dont want to do a co promotion when in the past They have done co promotions with lou like when they did the martinez pavlic fight. Arum doesnt want another of his stars to get beat by martinez.
