Of course it is, Tyson himself even admitted he wouldnt stand a chance against Holmes in his prime. Spinks was a career LHW.
I didnt know religion played a role in getting into the HOF.Comment

Naz was the youngest Brit to win a world title and beat every champion in the featherweight division. He brought attention to the lower weight divisions which allowed people like Pacquiao to make mega paydays. So why is he not in? I agree that Tyson should be in also.Comment

well I will give Naz credit ..................Naz was the youngest Brit to win a world title and beat every champion in the featherweight division. He brought attention to the lower weight divisions which allowed people like Pacquiao to make mega paydays. So why is he not in? I agree that Tyson should be in also.
for being a better actor than Sly!!!
Hamed was a showman not a fighter... he belonged in the circusComment

Naz should have a honest chance to make it in. Chiquita/Carbajal did it first but Naz was more consistant.Naz was the youngest Brit to win a world title and beat every champion in the featherweight division. He brought attention to the lower weight divisions which allowed people like Pacquiao to make mega paydays. So why is he not in? I agree that Tyson should be in also.Comment

No, he absolutely did not.
Michael Carbajal and 'Chiquita' Gonzalez paved the way with big money for the little guys. They were making much more than the majority of fighters in any weight apart from HW's at the time and were the first Flyweights to receive million $ purses. Hamed had **** all to do with that.Comment

I think he's getting in mainly as a screenwriter, not an actor.I dont think anyone is downplaying the movie. it is what it is. a movie. at the end of the day this is boxing, not the oscars. I think the movie did good (even thought it is unrealistict) for the sport, but i dont think he deserves to be in the IBHOF. this should be someting sacred to the sport. people make arguments about how odlh (who i could care less about) doesnt deserve to get in, yet an ACTOR gets in? isnt this what separates the good from the elite/ greats?
Most of the writers in Canastota though were sports writers though, not fiction writers. Budd Schulberg wrote the novel The Harder They Fall and the script for On the Waterfront (which, unlike Rocky, would probably make people NOT want to box), but he also was the boxing editor for Sports Illustrated.Comment

You still insist on confusing writing with acting. Who acts in a film is completely irrelevant. And the films you refer to didn't have a millionth of the impact in terms of mass audience that the first Rocky film did.The Sport of boxing was ALREADY POPULAR WAY BEFORE THE ROCKY MOVIES!! It wasn't like the sport was dead & his movie or movies revived it or made it any more popular...If that's the case then Russell Crowe, Robert De Niro & Denzel Washinton should ALL be in the hall of fame, cause the rolls they played DID MAKE POPULAR(again) REAL FIGHTERS WHO WERE ONCE POPULAR BACK IN THE DAY!!! Which would still be a bunch of BULL S H I T!!!
And the fact that boxing was already popular is irrelevant. The Rocky films made it more popular than it was before, and that's why he's in the Hall of Fame.
And bolded type is very difficult to read and comes across as shouting.Comment

You are so riddled with blind prejudice that it's impossible to take your posts seriously.First of all, Tyson became ****** when he was in prison for ****. Pre-prison Tyson: ATG. Post-prison Tyson: ****** whipping boy.
Second of all, Spinks and Holmes were top opponents. Guys like Ruddock and Bruno, both guys that Tyson whipped two times each, is the type of fighter that Naz fought his entire career.
Third of all, Tyson had skill to go along with his hard punches. Mohammed didn't give Naz anything other than stone hands.Comment
