We prefer to keep PR as our redheaded stepchild.

All of you guys are ****en ******s. What does population have to do with anything, unless everyone and mean everyone in that country wanted to be boxer.

US and Mexico pretty much hold the entire sport up.

The original post specified "the best boxers p4p for their population," i.e. the best fighters per capita. If we stick to that caveat, then Puerto Rico, with it's relatively small population, has to rank high in any discussion. You change the subject when you talk about the sheer quantity of great boxers. In that case, Mexico would rank higher.

But consider the difference in population. There are approximately 8 million Puerto Ricans on the island and the mainland U.S. combined. There over 108 million Mexicans in Mexico alone. It shouldn't come as a surprise that greater population produces more champions, especially when the sport is virtually a national obsession.

                just my 2 cents.
mexico has 10 official world champions altough only 3 are really know marquez,segura,motiel...margarito and rafa marquez didnt affect mexico at all they were not current champs 1 was no longer elite the other was on the edge of retirment..so there it is 10 world champions tody mexicanos...they have always had best chins, best punchers, bigger hearts,,now they are more skilled than they were....they are so dam good if they face each other they will completly ruin themselfs...barrera-morales best example

im not arguing at all with you on the fact that mexico is a great boxing nation. they are ONE of the best. the argument can be made on both sides that Mexico is better than Puerto Rico, and vice versa. I agree with you on the fact that Salvador Sanchez was a great fighter! But was Gomez not a great fighter because of his accomplishments as well? I'm not trying to start a war with anyone, I'm just simply stating facts along with my opinions. I don't think it's wrong of me/ignorant to say that PR is also one of the greatest (and arguably, the greatest) boxing nation around...

Wilfredo should be awarded "The greatests fighter who ever lived at one division" award.

Dude owned everybody at superbantamweight like nobody else has for the longest time.

I agree though in terms of individual quality, Puerto Rico hasnt have had a Duran, Leonard or Chavez in our history.

But as an unison, things like averaging a triple division champ in every 7 champions, and owning a titlist in`17 divisions, and taking in the fact of our population makes Puerto Rico right now the P4P champs.
