Manny Pacquiao: Skills or smart MATCH MAKING?

Tell me about it. Who else was he suppose to fight.

I hear Cotto over Mosley, but if anything Mosley is more of a come forward brawling fighter than Miguel. Atleast Cotto shows occasional movement and tries to box.

Then I hear Bradley. Kid is a tremendous talent, but he doesn't fight any different than they guys Manny has destroyed. He is a boxer puncher, but still stands in front of you and tries to outfight you.


Now let's take Williams. People cry about come forward brawlers but not only does Williams fall into this category, his defense is worse than Margarito and Cotto's.


I mean I'm really trying to find out what style Manny is ducking etc because every name they throw around, has a similar style that Manny has been beating.

I think Cotto is almost a pureboxer at this point...

Ive literaly watched this guy be a come forward wrecking ball turned boxer...

Last time I saw him really come forward at someone was Judah... every fight after Judah it has been a boxfest for Cotto..

Mosley, Margarito, Clottey, Pacquiao... he boxed all of them.

I admit Floyd has one of the best resumes when you look at things objectively. I can't see Bradley at all and with Marquez.....lets be real he has the nicest name in Floyd...but he got owned severly in that fight so how can you brag about having that fight on your resume?

I mean even if you could come up with 5 names, which I doubt, that's still impressive considering how many champions and great fighters there are in the sport of boxing.

And although some of the matchmaking has been in house...

None of those guys were bums...

Hatton, Cotto, Clottey, Margarito.... none are bums, some better than others... but all have been champions, either at the time or previously.... (I think Clottey won a belt by beating Judah)

If Manny didnt have great skills.. he would have lost to these guys.

Of course.

How about after?

Not so much.


Pacquiao inflicts serious damage on his opponents, they are not necessarily going to come out for the better after their fights with Pac.

Especially Margarito.... Especially.

I thought Marg was past prime a bit, but looked to be in tremendous shape.

After the 12 round punch bag routine he just went through... I won't call him shot yet, because I need to see him fight someone else.. but I wouldnt be surprised if he looked horrible in his next fight, no matter the opponent.

Credit to Cotto for bouncing back twice in his career, to capture a title after taking that beating from Pac.

I am saying his in ring performance... his trigger, his speed, he never looked the same to me after that fight.

What you are saying is he was never the real deal... I am not disagreeing.

But he had more trigger, more speed, more power before that fight compared to after that fight.

The Peter Manfredo post Calzaghe, or the Mendoza fight... were absolutely pitiful performances, or the horrific Taylor performance.

He didn't look that bad against equal opposition before that fight.

I think Pemberton is better than Manfredo.. and the Sheika from 6 years ago was better as well.

Anyways, my point wasn't to get into a ****in Jeff Lacy dispute, because I dont give a **** about him.

My point was... if the fighters that Pac beat the hell out of, dont go on to do greater things in the future, doesnt take away from their capability going into the Pac fight.

Kinda funny how they are missing the point of the example.

See now Marquez is interesting, because even for 37, he still looks like he has everything he had before... speed, combinations, timing, and most importantly a hell of a trigger, he doesn't hesitate.

My problem with this fight, is the weight that Manny will want the fight at.

Marquez looked great at 135 lbs... but he won't fight Manny at 135lbs.

They won't even fight at 140lbs.

And anything over 140lbs is total trash to me.

So JMM doesn't work for me either solely because of the catchweight that will be made.


Then you have a Cotto rematch... BS.

Floyd is out of the picture, obviously.

Until they announce it is at 150lbs... Martinez takes the fight just to make the payday and the shot to knock Pacquiao off his block.. but martinez won't be at his best either.

He was what... 168LBS against Williams? Said he cant get lower than 156...

You know damn well ROach heard that, so of course they will pull him lower.

So again.. Martinez matchup does nothing for me either because of the catchweight.


Thats why I want a Berto fight.

At the very LEAST... he is prime, he has great speed, he has good power, and he will fight a dog fight if he gets pulled into it (which would make for good entertainment)...

He is also undefeated.. and although he has no great wins, just some decent ones.. like a past it Quintana, a razor decsion over Collazo, and a blown up Urango... He is coming off two great performances, two knockouts, just this year. That is something you were making a point in your previous posts, about looking good, going into the fight... So Berto would also have that.

Even if you think Pac wins.. and as a Berto fan, so do I... At least he would be fighting a young prime undefeated fighter that would be looking good going into the fight with Pac.

The sad part is that if pac wins, you'll hear stuff like "pac cherrypicked another green brawler who lacks defense".
Any opponent mentioned, there are always post fight criticisms.
Thats lame ... but at the same time, that is expected when you are on top.
