This isn't surprising. Only half of an 8,000 seat stadium was filled for the first Rafa Izzy fight. Castillo Corrales had small attendance figures as well.

Its the Vegas arena. You have two non-native fighters boxing in an expensive resort. Hell, considering the circumstances, I'd say that 5K is good enough. Boxing just shoots itself in the foot with its promoting, or lack thereof and their inability to cater to the wide audiences. Why should the public care, they don't know a tomato can from one another and the two biggest fighters in the world won't fight.
Arum is a scum, but at least he's trying to reach the broader public, if only he make an effort to stage fights and undercards with more impact. All I do know is that if Marg/Cotto II pops off at the Meadowlands, we'll be on the right path
Golden Boy just posted this on Facebook: We would like to thank the 4,920 in attendance tonight for making this a spectacular fight with tremendous energy!
They need to move to different cities across the US and market the hell out of them. They just dump big fights in Vegas without promotion (especially GBP) and no one cares.
There are more big names in MMA right now than in boxing - that is for casual fight fans.
Arum is a sham promoter. De la hoya did better tonight with the undercard - at least he had good fighters.
Boxing is just dead here in the US - MMA is the big draw now - more knockouts, blood, and a match is only three rounds so fighters are forced to put more effort in a short amount of time - more excitement.
