At the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Andre Berto (27-0, 21KOs) destroyed Freddy Hernandez (29-2, 20KOs) in the first round after landing a crushing rightcross. Hernandez had his gaurd and hands up but he was caught right on the button and went down hard. He made it up but was barely able to get his senses together and the referee stopped the fight. Berto retains his WBC welterweight title. If there was ever a statement to make for a fight with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, Berto may have made it. Berto is on the short-list of challengers being considered for Pacquiao's next fight.

Hernandez was out on his feet anyways. If the ref would have let it go on Hernandez would have been back down on his ass within 10 seconds. Hernandez is a complete scrub with no chin who should have never been on HBO to begin with. This win proves nothing. No surprise here. Berto vs Mosley is the logical next step.

think he should have...i think in championship fights you should get that chance,he did get up and although he seemed to wobble a bit,you should get that chance,you never know,he could just hang on and try to survive the round by clinching a lot or even i would say run a bit,like jones jr once said,this isn't a walk in the park,it's for a title,it was a good shot by berto though,and if ref let's it go i can understand if he immediatley stops it if there are like 3 or 4 unanswered punches,give the opponent a shot to win

Right on we deserve better than this. If Berto is gonna fight these types of fighters he has no business being on HBO.
