Look. Berto went in there and did what he was spossed to do as a champion. He defended his belt against a mandatory challenger, and did it in championship calibre fashion. After the stoppage he then calls for elite fighters. What more do you want from the young man?????????? The stoppage was fine, as Freddy bearly knew where he was when the ref instructed him to walk towards him. No need to send him back in there and risk permanant damage, because he cant properly defend himself. If ya'll look back Berto landed that shot while his guard was up. THAT was power and precision, and 10 more seconds in the ring with Berto in that state could have been crucial for him. Ya'll stop cryin bout Berto. Why is Marquez in the conversation? Best name next for him is Mosley. Even though he's not Hopkins-"black", he is still black, but more green for Pac. Mayweather shouldn't even be in the picture since his career appears to be over, if he can't even back up the words in his pitiful u****** video.

whoopty doo, a ko of an over rated undeserving alphabet boys #1 contender. Berto doesnt deserve a big fight until he shows he can beat fighters like Collazo and Quintana without having to engage in life and death struggles with them.

Berto is good I think, but unfortunately he don't have the opponents to prove it with. Welterweight just isn't a strong division. He does get paid more than what HBO gives him and that's a legit gripe.

Something else I wanna touch on. Even though I'm not a Berto fan it seemed like HBO just totally **** blocked him from a Pacquiao shot and although Katsidis is a better fighter than Hernandez barring weight, JMM took a lot of punishment against Katsidis and would have to move up in weight to fight Pacquiao. Pacquiao gets nothing from me if he takes that fight.

Even if you don't like Berto and feel like he has just been given a short cut to a shot at the cream of the crop, you still can't deny that he would at least be a fresh challenge for Pacquiao. And he's the kind of opponent you should clamor for Manny to fight if you are tired of seeing all of these old guys in the ring with him. Which I am.

Some of you guys who love to post comments don't seem to really understand boxing at all or do you not realize that he had to fight the guy or be stripped of his title? I have been a student of boxing for more than 30 years I follow many websites but have only posted a reply twice, would you let them strip you if you had the title? Oh by the way who do you want him to fight?

That is a good point. However, word is that after Mosley got embarrased by Mayweather, negotiations began for Berto to fight Mosley but Berto wanted a 50-50 split and Mosley didn't. Then Berto was orderd to fight Aydin from turkey, but Aydin didn't want to fight in america so Hernandez became his mandatory. I'll bet anything he would have put up a better fight then Hernandez did.

So Berto deserves some blame for not sucking it up and taking a little less money to fight the best. Instead, they both faught lousey compettion(with Mosley not even winning). He better man up now and fight a serious opponent after taking too much of HBO's money. BTW I want Berto-Cotto very much.
