It has nothing to do with any catching up or African American's losing their edge etc. The truth is there are less youth in the US taking up the sport. There are so many other distractions and sports to get involved in.

The American public is slowly but surely losing interest in the sport. That lowering interest also includes parents who would decide to take their kids to a boxing gym.

Over the years, when you lose 50%+ of the gene-pool in a sport, well you are not going to get as much quality.

If you do not believe me, just look at the sorry a$$ shape the sport is in. You can even look at the P4P top 10. You will find two or three guys of exceptional quality. The rest would only be average 20 years ago.

So the reason you see less exceptional black fighters in the sport, is because there are far less to pick from. If the sport had the numbers it did in the 80's, the situation would be much the same as it was then, except for some good Eastern Block fighters in the mix as well.

Black men are envied on this site. Black Masculinity has always been envied, otherwise you would not see some of the dumb ass threads and comments on this site.

Look at the history of boxing and add up the totals and tell me what group of men has dominated the sport?

Look at all the other major sports in this country tell me what group of men dominates those sports?

Now Let them shut down the NBA, NFL, MLB and Track and Field. Let their only be boxing, what group of men would once again dominate 70% - 90% of all the weight divisions in boxing?

AA don't need to dominate boxing. Its not about race it's about options. When you have other options you take them. If you can run fast and jump high there are easier ways to make money in this country.


Boxing is like baseball to most AA, they really don't watch or care about it that much. There are not many boxing gyms and baseball fields in the urban areas anymore. The NBA and the NFL is where the Athletic AA men gravitate.


Hell more money can be made these days "beat boxing" than prize fighting. Also add in the fact most AA men these days grow up in single family household raised by their mothers.


It is very hard to convince a AA mother to let you take up boxing. You're probably going to get a football or a basketball instead of boxing gloves.


Not to mention they let us go to school now and school is pretty awesome. No need to spend all that money on your brain to just let it get slammed against your skull for 12 rounds.


The way the economy is going your probably going to see my white brothers make a comeback in professional boxing. So my Hispanic and Black brothers better watch out if this economy does not pick up soon, white dudes are going to start showing back up at the gym.
