How much has Sergio gotten hit in his last 3 fights? You need more data samples. Mayweather is an enigma in every sense of the word in terms of his defense
I'm not saying Pacquiao is slick, but I do believe some of the shots he takes are intentional, as weird as that sounds, he's not slick, but his defense is underrated. His upper body movement could be improved, and he moves his head relatively well, but he's not some plodding punching bag, he's just so focused on offense and toughness and in turn, he's not all that concerned with not being hit.

Pac is a volume puncher. When was the last time Floyd fought a volume puncher? He lowers the output of counter punchers, and grapplers and what have you but when has he ever lowered the output of a volume puncher? When was the last time he faced one? Castillo? 8 years ago? Chavez threw 100 punches in plenty of rounds against him....
I have yet to really see him reduce the output drastically of a volume puncher. Not saying he can't, but haven't really seen it. So I don't know if he can or can not plus he is slowing down now, so is Pac. So I really don't know...
It looks to me that, in recent fights, fighters consistently average about 30% landed punches on Pacquiao.

481 punches thrown by Mayweather, 580+ thrown by Pacquiao.
Mayweather also reduced De La Hoya's output like no other fighter has before that fight.

"Slick" is such a general term. Generally I believe it means making opponents miss using upper body movement and exerting the least amount of effort possible in order to make them miss.
Ie; A slick fighter fighting in the pocket might use his upper body movement to make someone miss and then counter instead whereas someone who isn't might just back dash out of the way punch.
Pacquiao can make people miss, but that's mainly due to his superb footspeed/footwork. But he really doesn't use upper body movement in that kind of manner. Its not a knock on Pacquiao, its just not how he fights. And fighting a slow arm puncher like Margarito doesn't change anything. If you cant slip some of Margarito's punches via upper body movement you need not be fighting on that level. That's not to say Pacquiao won't use it occasionally. He just doesn't do it nearly enough to call him a slick fighterLast edited by Biolink; 11-16-2010, 12:57 PM.

I hear Alexander is slick, but I am like he was getting hit so much by Kotelnik. Who couldn't even find Amir Khan. Hell Kotelnik beat Alexander more decisively IMO than what he beat Maidana. But, yet Alexander is slick? How so? Pac is just as slick as him.
But, is just as slick if not slicker than all 3 that I mentioned is just that he is also more offensive minded. It just that people who want to take shots at Pac are the same ones who want claim Judah, and/or Berto, and/or Alexander as slick.
And, putting numbers out there doesn't really determine slick either. I don't think nobody is calling the K-bros slick. Yet somebody put their compubox numbers up. It will show opponents barely landing on them. Does that make them slick? Really?
But, even trying to compare Pac to Floyd to see how slick he is... It is just ridiculous. Floyd is one of the top 10 greatest defensive fighters of all time. So how you going to compare Pac, who nobody is mistaken for a defensive wizard to one of the 10 greatest defensive fighter of all time?

pac is an offense-minded fighter, a volume puncher, risk-taker and doesn't maintain a safe distance from his opponent. with that style of course he gets hit more than a defensive fighter like floyd. you're ****** if you think otherwise.

How many of those compubox have been against volume punchers? Pac is a volume puncher, Marg was a volume puncher, P-Will is a volume puncher, JMM is NOT a volume puncher, Shane is NOT a volume puncher, Baldomir, Oscar, Hatton, Judah, Mitchell, Bruseles, Corley, Ndou, Sosa, Gatti, were not volume punchers.
Castillo was a pressure/volume type of punchers. Maybe it was or maybe it wasn't but I don't remember his output being drastically reduced, Chavez out wasn't drastically reduced either.
I am not saying Floyd can't do it, I am saying when was the last time he did it against a volume puncher.

Margarito normally throws about 100 punches per rd but he was barely throwing 50 punches per rd against Pacquiao. Mayweather is 90% defense, 10% offense..Pac is 90% offense, 10% defense. Mayweather never gets hit by much, but he doesn't break dudes down. Pac gets hit a bit more but he demolishes guys until they want to quit or they get ko'd. I'd say that what Pac gives away by getting hit, he more than makes up for in damage and points earned.
Floyd might limit Manny's landed percentage but when you throw 1000 punches per fight, landing 300 or 400 is fine. Especially when Mayweather normally throws 300-400 punches in a fight he will be so concerned with defense and avoiding punches, he will not even throw 200 punches the entire fight and landing 70-100 punches isn't going to win him the fight....so his 50% landed percentage won't do anything for him.
