in calzaghe's mind he was a great unbeatable fighter but when a 43 year old hopkins beat him he realized his entire career was fraudulent and he folded mentally. he's very similar to hamed. both got beat once and never recovered cept calzaghe got the gift win on his resume but obviously he knows he lost that fight so the effect was the same as losing.Last edited by daggum; 11-08-2010, 03:08 AM.Comment

Calzaghe was a heartles bum. The bum never had the desire to go overseas and become a great. He fought his last 2 fights in Vegas and MSG so that he could say that he has fought at all the big venues.
I believe that people actually started to turn away from boxing after they saw a Calzaghe fight. That's how disgusting his style was. Good riddance.Comment

listen, bum.....this is the man that beat chris eubank convincingly and had him over in the very first round. no other fighter except michael watson has done that at s/middle. also, it was eubank and benn who were heavily avoided by the likes of jones and big mouth toney. the only one who had the gutts to face benn with any substance never fought again im sad to say.
anyway, when you consider that benn,collins or any american wanted no part of calzaghe at such an early stage is really saying something about the man.
2nd round knockdown to byron mitchell(1st in career)was responded with immediate fight stoppage after joe battered him to an easy and exciting win......as you would have seen, another non exciting bum against bum match-up...NOT.
the best the yanks could or did offer was the likes of tocker pudwill.
what other s/middle fighters were around during joes magnificant and record breaking reign? no americans. just euros like sven(i own the judges)otkke.
OH, mikkel kessler. beaten. hopkins....well, here was a man prior to the calzaghe fight was supposed to be the man to beat after dominating wins over other americans and after a knockdown in the 1st......the "bum" only got up and gave hopkins a beating who, i might add just tried to steal the fight all the way.
good middle weight but a cheat.
jones. a 90s technical and power machine with either hand and i would go as far to say if, they had met then it could have been a different result.
what does that tell you of the two of them? whos the bum or bums?

Calzaghe was great. BIG HEART. That's how he beat more physically gifted fighters. They might have more muscles, but Calz would not give in.
A lesser man would have being KOed in round 1 with Hopkins. Not Calz. He made Hopkins turn into an actor.
Abraham does it better, though.
