I would have to say....I've never known of a fighter who has had such a lengthy, stagnant reign...like Calzaghe has had.
He really has been toiling in blandness forever now. There's always talk of him going to the next level, & it never materializes.
If he retired tomorrow it would make no difference.
It has been lengthy and it has been stagnant but at times it has been pretty entertaining. His fights with Mitchel and Brewer cetainly stand out.
Sven Ottke comes to mind a little bit quicker than my boy Joe, from the sounds of it Ottke could have lost just about every fight he won at least Joe fights with attitude and urgency.

Point taken however.
i'm viewing his career largely from an expectations standpoint.
Nobody expected (or wanted) much from Sven Ottke.
Calzaghe....he's been held in fairly high esteem (ability-wise) for a very long time.
yes, he's been in some good fights, & been impressive in many....but where's the big fight ?
Calzaghe is a *****, after seeing Lacy demolish Reid he wants no parts of him, period. now he says "of course id have to be at my best to beat lacy" before he was saying lacy wasn't ****, now he's running scared, Lacy should find this guy in the street and knock him out, its the only chance he will have to fight him
