You need to see the fight, it was a great fight. Duran was the biggest name at that time, so he got the decision. It was a close fight. Duran fans gives Duran 8 rounds & Ray fans think he won the fight, I was not Sugar Ray fan, but he did won the fight in my eyes. Sugar Ray had some huge wins in his career, Benitiz, Duran & Hearns, This was in his prime. I respect the guy & he was one of the best I've ever seen.

            That's not true...

Ray Leonard fought as a prime-time network headliner before his fight with duran.
For Duran to get on prime-time network T.V., it was on the undercard.

Leonard was the media darling, even then....while Duran was more revered in the fight community.

Were you even a fight fan back then ? Sounds to me like you're getting this stuff second handed.
yes I was, I was kid at that time & my idol was the Marvelous.

At leightweight Duran was the total package and one of the greatest fighters ever. I can't see how anyone could overrate him.
Hey dude you obviously never seen a prime Chavez fight. You just described what Chavez did also. He never got credit for his defensive skills if a young Chavez was hit flush it would be on the forehead. That is where he would take the punches.Im not gonna say either of these fighter are overated, cause both had the skills to make them the legends that they are. i dont give a **** if they fought a guy with the complete package.(this is over rated)Point is they found a way to beat their opponents even if they didnt do it in a flamboyant way.
