Agreed. Haye is still by far the biggest coward in boxing, followed by Mayweather, Dirrell, Povetkin, etc.Comment

Yes.You unwittingly make my point for me: guys don't do well after Teddy is done with them because Teddy destroys them.
Teddy is a lunatic who wants to destroy fighters' confidence. Michael Grant has some very interesting things to say about Teddy. Teddy destroyed his confidence and made him a self-loathing individual.
All one has to do is look at the trajectory of Povetkin's career since Teddy took the reins to see the "Atlas effect."
Povetkin is being destroyed by the cancer that is Teddy Atlas. He made a fatal mistake when he allowed Teddy to take control of his career.
Before Atlas, Grant's only loss was to a top ten ATG heavyweight Lennox Lewis. And Michael showed a lot of heart in that fight.
Grant beat some decent opponents before Atlas got a hold of him, like prime Golota.
But in his first fight working with Atlas against McCline, he went in without warming up and became injured as he fell from the first punch of the fight. Then with Atlas, he fought a string of bums (like Povetkin is doing now), and then having lost his confidence, was stopped when he finally fought a decent opponent in Dominick Guinn.
Before the Guinn fight in the boxing gym, Atlas was so verbally abusive to Grant he actually had him crying.
Teddy Atlas is a nutcase.Last edited by The Hammer; 10-25-2010, 07:49 PM.Comment

If he wasn't on TV and if he hadn't been involved with Tyson then I doubt anyone would rate Teddy that highly as a trainer. As it is his commentary is often full of nonsense and he was never the main guy at the Tyson camp, plus he left when Mike was still very young.
Of course, very few people know what goes on during different training camps and inside boxer's heads, but I don't think his resume as a trainer is that great. Maybe I'm forgetting something but only Moorer's win over Holyfield really stands out, the rest of his history as a trainer is a mixed bag that I think many trainers could've matched if given the chance.Comment

Yep. Teddy is a sadistic bully. He gets his jollies bullying the unfortunate boxers who make the mistake of employing him. Even in Povetkin's recent fight, there was Teddy after the first round slapping Povetkin across the face in the corner. I'm afraid if Teddy did that to me, trainer or no trainer, I'd blast a right cross into his jaw and tell him to get out of the ring. Teddy's thing is breaking someone down psychologically. He wants to think everyone is "soft" except Teddy Atlas. How more fighters haven't rebelled and kicked the crap out of him I don't know.Yes.

Logic? Here's some logic: Povetkin gets involved with Teddy, blows off a press conference with Wladimir for a $2 million title fight, ends up fighting a "dark exhibition" against Bruce Seldon instead, then takes another fight against a tomato can named Teke Oruh and gets tagged hard a few times before he finally KOs the bum. Now Povetkin is talking about returning to fight in the Olympics! He's right back where he started from!
Logic states that the trajectory of Povetkin's career since he hooked up with psycho Teddy Atlas is straight downhill. He's gone from being considered a serious contender for a HW title to being a running joke and a cautionary tale.Last edited by ChopperRead; 10-25-2010, 08:50 PM.Comment

In three decades, Atlas has only ever had ONE win as a trainer in a world title fight. If he wasn't on TV and if he hadn't been involved with Tyson then I doubt anyone would rate Teddy that highly as a trainer. Even Kelly Pavlik's trainer Jack Loew has THREE.
Enzo Calzaghe has about TWENTY-FIVE world title fight wins.
Povetkin's former trainer Uli Wegner has at least THIRTY-FIVE world title fight wins with Huck, Abraham, Ottke, Maske, etc.
Manny Steward has about FORTY world title fight wins as a trainer.Comment

You could have had Grant trained by ray Arcel and Eddie Futch and, after the Golota fight, it wouldn't have mattered. Grant never recovered from the beating he took there and getting smashed into the floor by Lewis right after was all she wrote. Golota savagely whipped his ass for most of the night before he went Golota and quit. People forget how nasty that was.Comment

I used to defend Teddy Atlas but now I just realize that he destroyed another fighter under his care. Povetkin is ready to give up pro boxing ..poor boy listened to Teddy and missed a chance to cash in over $2 million.
And worse is, people around him say that he didn't even progress under Teddy's care, not a bit.Comment
