Dan Rafael has a further update on Briggs: I thought Vitali broke his nose in the late rounds and it turns out he did:

Briggs "is in Hamburg's Eppendorf University Hospital with a broken left orbital bone in his face, a broken nose and a torn left biceps, Empire Sports and Entertainment promoter Greg Cohen told ESPN.com."

Shannon Briggs displayed enormous heart during his lopsided loss to heavyweight titlist Vitali Klitschko on Saturday, and it landed him in the hospital.

      Don't scare him out...

Haye did a good thing in ducking the Klitschkos especially Vitali. I think he'd be a tumble weed against the Vitali storm. Yeah!!! you bet!!! But don't tell him this..., don't you dare. we wanna see this fight happen..

I don't know about anyone else but I felt physically ill watching the latter part of the fight and to some extent even now discussing it. I really feel for Briggs, it was so wrong, watching someone that helpless. It's really left me with a very sad taste for boxing...

This is terrible news and I hope for a speedy recovery for Briggs. His corner and the ref are the ones that deserve a broken face.

Same here, I felt bad I was asking myself if Shannon had bet on going to a decision.

                Damn, that's just terrible.

I hope he'll be ok and the ref investigated for being a moron.

Also, his corner should be ashamed of themselves.

I had mixed emotions: I was impressed by Vitali's aggression and ferocity form round one onwards, when many of his critics were suggesting he had lost the fire and was slowing down. Vitali has seldom looked more brutally dominant than he did against Briggs. Maybe it was CHEF's cooking?

I was impressed by Briggs' guts and heroic effort to stay on his feet. Shannon showed me something I wasn't sure he had before yesterday.

I was appalled by the lack of intelligence shown by Briggs' corner and the referee in letting the fight continue after 8 rounds. Briggs was totally demolished in round 8 and the fight should have ended there.

Briggs wasn't too bad leading up to this fight, but he has talked some pretty vile smack about the K-Bros for years on "other" boxing sites (like the one on the East Side). So in that sense he got his comeuppance yesterday. But at least he was very classy in defeat.
