The big thing Shannon was supposed to have going for him was handspeed, and Vitali proved to be faster than him.

I don't see Haye as being able to stand up to the onslaught you know Vitali would be bringing against him. And Vitali hates Haye -- he seemed to actually like Briggs. Imagine how pumped VK would be against a guy he despises.

Yes. That was the only good punch Briggs landed in the last 5 rounds.

I feel bad for Shannon and hope for a his quick recovery, but he seemed to toss the main principle of boxing straight out the window: "Protect yourself at all times", among other boxing principles.

Can't blame his corner which could be heard in the ending rounds that the fight was going to be stopped if he didn't step it up.

I seriously doubt he should continue fighting and risk suffering a worse debilitating injury for not at least putting his hands up to protect his head.

Slow George Foreman couldn't be missed either, but he made the effort to at least protect himself at times and fight back.

I'm just telling you what the conventional wisdom was. I heard many "experts" leading up to the fight giving Briggs a big edge in handspeed. Vitali was supposedly "old and slow." Didn't turn out that way at all, and to Briggs' credit he noted Vitali's excellent handspeed after the fight.

I never bought into the myth that Vitali was slowing down, anyway. He cruises against people like Sosnowski, but he steps it up when he is facing someone he thinks can hurt him. He has seldom administered a more brutal beating than he did yesterday, KO or no KO. Actually, Vitali takes far less punishment now than he did in the days of the Lewis and Sanders fights, and still dishes out hellacious punishment of his own. He is better at maintaining distance now (influence of Manny Steward) and is in some ways better than ever.

His corner shouldn't have said it, he should have stopped it. He is a POS, he knew how it looked and he saw that Briggs lost on all cards and there was no hope of hitting the iron chinned Vitaly with a one punch ala Liakhovich.

Buddy McGrit (whatever his name is) stopped the Brewster slaughter, Briggs was asking him to stop it with his eyes from the 9th round on.

I think Briggs had bet on the over 9.5 or the fight going to a decision. I was wondering the whole time, why the corner wasn't even coming close to stopping it and then Briggs had so many opportunities just to crumble under the barrage of punches but something kept him there. I don't know man, man does the most ****ed up things for money. Most people are money whores anyway. I was thinking about betting the decision since the 8th round, but I really started believing it when the corner had absolutely no concern for Shannon in the 10th and 11th round.

It would be a good thing for Haye's manager to keep this news away from David at this point in time or it could scare the hell in him out of the Harrison fight!!!
