Was the Super Six a Failure?

Overall, no.
When Kessler was taken out and Johnson was made as a replacement pretty much signified that failure of the actual tournament was inevitable. Replacing Taylor was pretty bad, but having to replace two guys just throws the tournament out of whack.
Dirrell dropping out was just the nail in the coffin.
In the end, you could argue it was a failure due to not finishing as planned. But on the bright side, we got a lot of great fights out of the Super Six and it gave Ward a chance to shine.
We still have Froch and Abraham fight to look forward to. They should just fight for the right to challenge Ward. That is the most simple solution. That way we don't have to see Ward vs. Glen Johnson, lol.Comment

The old timers weren't fighting elite competition twice a month. Though I don't disagree with you on having each fighter only having three months in between events. Besides, it would only be temporary and for the sake of finishing the tourney, so I get that. How could I forget this?
What kind of tournament takes 2 years to complete... smh..
I don't mind the point system, but it should've been rigged to where guys fought every 3 months. Don't give me that **** about them needing more time. If the old timers could fight 2 times a month, these guys could knock this tourney out in a year.Comment

Bika was being considered for joining the tourney when Taylor needed a replacement and after Allan Green's showing, may have been a good idea had they went through with Bika.If you want some sort of silver lining yes, but as a "Boxing classic tourney" its an abject failure.
Lol, Ward is fighing another replacement in Oakland who doesn't even belong in the tourney and the fight itself is not recognized by the tournament.
So what if he loses? Does he still fight the winner of AA/Froch?
And if he wins? Does he really deserve to fight that winner? Those guys fought all 3 fighters in the original 6 while Ward fought 1 of the originals, 2 crap replacements AND ALL IN OAKLAND.
How is that even fair?Comment

It will all be worth it once we get to see Froch vs AA.

I can't agree more, the supersix tounament put the supermiddle weight division back on the map. The potential still left in the tournament can still accomplish more for the sport.Lemme break this down.
Under NO circumstances do we see:
Abraham/Taylor
Dirrell/Froch
Ward/Kessler
Dirrell/Abraham
Froch/Kessler
Ward/Green
Abraham/Froch
Johnson/Green
Ward/Bika
Plus potentially matches between Johnson, Froch, Abraham, and Ward.
Under NO circumstances do we see that many relevant fights in one division over a year and a half without the tournament. It may have fallen short of expectations but christ....we get like 10 highly relevant fights in one division in 18 months and we're complaining. When does that EVER happen?
Ward/Bika
Abraham/Froch
Green/Johnson
Ward vs Abraham/Froch will be a classic. Either way it unfolds the division can live on for along time.Comment

The tourney was set up right, and we were supposedly guaranteed goods fights. It was the failure of some of the boxers because they were injured and constantly delaying fights.Comment
