Was the Super Six a Failure?

It brought exposure to the fighters who were in it. Besides that it pretty much failed. The timespan for the tournament should have been shorter. In the end I knew Ward will be fighting for the top spot. And on the other corner either Abraham, or Froch so the people I expected to advance and stay in the tournament are pretty much still in it. Ward was going to be in the finals and Kessler wasn't beating Ward so him leaving is nothing. Direll is not even in his prime and seems rather unsure of himself so that would have played against him with ward majorly.Comment

How can you not see it as a failure?
It was a systemic failure in every way.
1)They didn't invite the best guy (Bute)
2)They gave Ward all his fights in Oakland
3)Taylor punked out after 1 fight.
4)Dirrell and Ward punked out cuz' they're butt buddies
5)The tournament has fallen apart
6)Green and Johnson got invited
If this happened in any real sport, the league would go broke.

In my eye's, yes it was...I was hyped about it at first, but it was drawn out way to long. Should have been single elimination, and the venues should have all been neutral.
Then again, the venues didn't really matter...There should have neverbeen a ****** point system. You win, you move on. You lose, you go home. Simple, and it would have taken far less time.Comment

What kind of tournament takes 2 years to complete... smh..
I don't mind the point system, but it should've been rigged to where guys fought every 3 months. Don't give me that **** about them needing more time. If the old timers could fight 2 times a month, these guys could knock this tourney out in a year.Comment

That was the main thing for me Sect...**** took way to long between fights. How could I forget this?

While some of the thing you say are true, the fights we had already are much better than the participants just fighting club fighters and journeymen instead of each other which is what most likely would have happened if this didn't.How can you not see it as a failure?

Yeah and Bute not being involved at this point disqualifies it from being any sort of proving ground for who the best SMW is though.Comment

If you want some sort of silver lining yes, but as a "Boxing classic tourney" its an abject failure. While some of the thing you say are true, the fights we had already are much better than the participants just fighting club fighters and journeymen instead of each other which is what most likely would have happened if this didn't.

Lol, Ward is fighing another replacement in Oakland who doesn't even belong in the tourney and the fight itself is not recognized by the tournament.
So what if he loses? Does he still fight the winner of AA/Froch?
And if he wins? Does he really deserve to fight that winner? Those guys fought all 3 fighters in the original 6 while Ward fought 1 of the originals, 2 crap replacements AND ALL IN OAKLAND.
How is that even fair?Comment

Then stop thinking of it as a boxing classic or as a tourney at all and just think of it as being better than what we would have gotten otherwise which is Ward vs insert bum to make him look good. Bika is a top 10 SMW regardless of what anyone thinks of him.If you want some sort of silver lining yes, but as a "Boxing classic tourney" its an abject failure.

So yes as a divisional tourney its a fail but the division and boxing as a whole is better for it happening I think than without.Comment

I'm just answering the thread question as a "Super Six" its a failure. Then stop thinking of it as a boxing classic or as a tourney at all and just think of it as being better than what we would have gotten otherwise which is Ward vs insert bum to make him look good. We got some matchups from Froch, Kessler and AA that we probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise, so in that regard, I"m down with it.
AA/Froch has foty potential imo.Comment
