Were he to fight within a short period of publically announcing his issues, then something is almost certainly not right with his story.

    Use your head.
what? he publicly announced the issues about 2-3 weeks after the abraham fight

and he doesn't feel fit enough to fight ward now, because showtime wont let them reschedule again and he's still having the same issues

just because you only found out about it recently doesn't mean he should have to wait 6 more months after already waiting 7-8

if he's ready to fight, he should come back, whenever that may be, there isn't a specific time limit till someone fully recovers from post-concussive syndrome

tho i wish, then we could have a countdown

Whatever the case, he is a good boxer and it will be bad for boxing if he can not fight anymore.
Not before the tournament started. Although, I didn't rate him and said that Ward would outshine him from the first matchups onward (which happened).

With his conduct in the tournament, though, sure, I've come to strongly dislike him. And I don't really out and out dislike a lot of fighters. I tend to find redeeming qualities in all of them.

When I think about it, though, Dirrell is just a poor kid with some athletic gifts who just doesn't really have the mentality. I'm not going to hate on a guy for struggling with the reality of boxing as a sport where you get hit for a living (and I'm not referring to this latest announcement, but his flaky ring demeanour in general). But, if that's the case, he should GTFO the sport and find other ways to make good money...hopefully there's some support for him.

The question that remains unanswered is why hasn't Dirrell retired? If he indeeds suffers from even the mildest form of brain injury he should hang his gloves up. No need for things to get worse, we don't need Dirrell to be permanently damaged or die in the ring.

The point is, he wouldn't have fought for at least 5 of those 7 months, anyway, regardless of any "neurological problem". So citing that 5 month ring absence to support the "neurological problem" story doesn't make much sense.

If the problems are ongoing, if they are an issue right now, I sincerely doubt they will be resolved and cleared up in such a speedy time that a fight could be selected and scheduled to take place within 6 months of last week or this week (the present) and for Andre to be properly prepared for it with all the training he's supposedly missed.

That's a lot to happen in a very short amount of time.

I also knew that Ward would win on style, but I do appreciate Dirrell in the ring when he isn't screaming. He is exciting to watch, and yes maybe he doesn't have the mentality, but then there are so many different mental flaws in others such as guys who get fat, go out all night and don't train etc...

Not every fighter is born with that fighter mentality, but then not every man loves his job in real life either. We work to live, and I guess it is a jbo for him.

I mean from the first round on, not just in their head-to-head. Too much noise about Dirrell going into the tourney, not enough on Ward. Everyone seemed to have forgotten Ward going in.

I think when you start out, at least, it has to be for a love of the heat of the fight if you're going to excel in the pro game. Even a guy like Floyd, Mr. Money, started out with that mentality. You can see it when you watch the young Mayweather.

Dirrell cuts a sorrowful figure as soon as the heat gets turned up in a fight against a world class opponent, like he doesn't really want to be there. Guys who want to be there tend to carry a manner/air of defiance or relish in that situation.
Maybe it's just his face, but Dirrell has the look of hardship. If you go by the adages, you'd expect that to be a galvanizing factor in the heat of battle. But the world has moved on since the 1940's and maybe we've reached a point in history where some of these poor kids get to glimpse enough of life's other side to have the mentality that there has to be better ways to make money than being punched in the head (or being involved in criminal life, but that's a different convo). I wouldn't hold that against any of them. But D's performances in the Super 6 have done the sport no favors ultimately. And if he doesn't want to be there, he's better off not being there. My view of things.

And if he did, he wouldn't be getting any high profile fights for a long time because of the risk around his neurological problems. So again, it hurts his career just as much to fake something so serious as it does to actually have a problem.
