Comments Thread For: Froch Won't Speculate, But Hints Doubt on Dirrell's Story

In his latest Nottingham Post column, Carl Froch discussed Andre Dirrell's withdrawal from the Super Six Boxing Classic. At first, Froch refused to speculate on whether Dirrell's withdrawal was legitimate or not. Dirrell withdrew last week from the Super Six with neurological complaints, claiming that Arthur Abraham's illegal right hand from their March fight was the likely cause.

IMO, it only takes some common sense to see that Dirrell isn't faking. Faking a brain injury would ruin his career nearly as much as actually having a problem.

Most would agree that something wasn't right with his story if he fights within 6 months.

        So I guess we'll see, won't we?

Dirrell could remove all speculation concerning the legitimacy of his injury, by either:

            1: Retire
2: Make it clear that he wants Ward as soon as he's healed.

Even if he is faking, the fact he was claiming a serious neurological injury would make it extremely difficult for him to get cleared to fight in the next six months. And if he did, he wouldn't be getting any high profile fights for a long time because of the risk around his neurological problems. So again, it hurts his career just as much to fake something so serious as it does to actually have a problem.

it's been 7. And 5 of those were the prearranged scheduling of the tourney, the other 2 were attributed to negotiations and wrangling over venue etc.

Were he to fight within a short period of publically announcing his issues, then something is almost certainly not right with his story.

                  You a Dirrell hater Rage?

Whatever the case, he is a good boxer and it will be bad for boxing if he can not fight anymore.

Not if he experiences a miraculous recovery and his symptoms all just go away. All that has been heard is Dirrell's word so far via his camp, we've heard no official statement from any doctor associated with him or anything reliable like that. It's not unusual for an athlete's doctor to be involved in a public statement like the one Dirrell's camp made.

                    Like I say - we'll see, won't we?
