Maybe Roy should circle the ring like Ray Leonard in his bout vs. Marvin Hagler.

I think he should use lots of movement. He should be conditioned for a busy fight;I read in magazine interview they he will train 3 months for this fight. He probably started training before it was signed.
You know he laid against the ropes because he had to, right? Not like he chose to fight on the ropes. I think only Muhammad Ali ever did that, and he only did it once. Tarver put him on the ropes and pummeled him, and he'll do it again. I know you're fairly new to boxing so I'll tell you straight up. Roy used to be called Superman until he met Tarver. Tarver is his kryptonite. I wanted Tarver to beat Jones so bad in the first two fights, and he'll do it again in the third, even though Tarver has slacked off a ridiculous amount since stopping Roy.

Roy must learn that in boxing, you have to put your hands up and block shots...He saw the punch that was coming from Johnson, he couldn't manuever and get out of the way. Instead of Roy trying to let his speed take care of itself, he has to learn how to fight with defense. Most fighters change when they get old.

roy's a counter puncher...tarver's a counter puncher. roy needs to bait tarver and not the other way around. in the second fight tarver was just waiting to unload and finally saw a RJJ tactic he was familiar with and capitalise on it (i mean seriously, it was about time someone caught on to rjj's right hand lead to check hook left). if tarver just waits roy's got to bait him to attack with feints in order to counter over the jab or rear left hand. roy also needs to circle more to tarver's right...which means lead right hands to tarver's fac and body. if he gets trapped on the ropes he should HOLD and not try to counter so much!!! i know it's ugly but it works.

roy's also a 'vet' and needs to implement some 'vet' tricks as well...all you ring vets know what i'm talking about...it's not dirty if you don't get caught.

If you were Roy's trainer what strategies or styles would you suggest he use to defeat the magic man?
I reckon Roy should adopt the "Ricardo Mayorga" tactics and offer his chin too Tarver for a free shot!...

"Press conference planned to officially announce Jones-Tarver III

Tuesday in New York, the offiical announcement of Antonio Tarver- Roy Jones III will be made at a press conference. The bout will be dubbed "No Excuses" an obvious play on Tarver's boastful question during referees instructions before last years 2nd round KO over Jones. It was the first time Jones, jr., had ever been knocked-out."-15rounds.com
