you are definitely right!!! But that's what you gotta deal with when you're that good. I love shane too but i always thought he was overrated even though he did beat some good fighters. He could always be outboxed and he never had the main punch in boxing, the jab!!!!!
Shane mosley is overrated??????

Shane is old now,but to say he was overrated is just crazy!!Floyd, even Cotto beat an older version of the man!!His biggest win to me was the destruction of Margarito but Mosley in his prime beat Pacman,Floyd & whoever else is bossing 147 right now!!Comment

You clock in at 31 years old, and it's a pity that for 30 of those years you were ignorant about boxing. And the remaining year was not redolescent of any brilliant boxing revelations from you. If you want to know something about mosley, he began boxing BEFORE he fought Oscar-whom he beat very well in a competitive first fight, and less easily although definitely in a second fight. Mosley has shown that he strugglea at 154, even against Vargas, whom he KO'd.
What I suggest you do is look at his lightweight career, and it will open your eyes. Make sure they don't fall out, as Mosley was a different kind of fighter at 135. AND DONT FORGET...which you obviously have done, that Oscar, the once beaten genius of thee 147 pounders, was a killer himself. AND again, this was Mosleys 1st fight in welter at 12 pounds heavier than light.
So, baby, crawl away and chew your little thumb whilst you contemplate a really great fighter.
its his lightweight resume that truly gets overrated. similar to the opposition that he tested the welterweight division against, his lightweight opponents were completely over-matched. he beat them with a combination of a great chin, speed and one of the best body attacks of his time. so, you have an olympic caliber boxer fighting average fighters with his father pressing him to stay on their body with that legendary left hook to the body he had. breaking his opposition down from the ground up was a game-plan so basic, they made it look genius. his opposition, mostly hispanic, btw, had no hope of keeping up with him, as him coming up in california had already taught him how to handle less skilled but tough fighters.
he definitely won the second de la hoya fight? are you serious? he came on strong towards the second half of the fight, when most fighters are approaching fatigue. he was stumped in the corner for the first six rounds (which should have been in the bank for de la hoya) and was let off the hook a bit when oscar stopped controlling mosley with his jab and started to fight mosley's fight. now if you're saying that oscar de la hoya did NOT win a round or two between rounds 7 and 12 then maybe you need to stop listening to what your friends tell you about the fight and actually go watch it. i won't even bother to point out how the drugs he was taking were specifically designed to help his late rounds surge.Comment

He has 2 big fight/wins on his belt. As oppose to Oscar, who apparently has none. Although I don't see why the Vargas fight was not considered a big fight. Especially since this was more or less a prime Vargas (replacing the youthful fighting spirit Tito beat out of him, with steroids).
That being said, I can definitely see how Mosley is higher up in the legacy poll, considering he did beat him fair and square (once). But lets take into mind Oscar was by far a more superior boxer. Not only was Oscar far more fundamentally skilled, but he was also able to move up in weight and win fights handily, while Mosley above 147 was always terrible.Comment

Yeah, I think Shane is one of those guys you would refer to as a border line great fighter. But I think the fact that he hung tough with Cotto when Cotto was so highly regarded gives him some points. I thought Cotto lost that fight.Comment

i can't argue against mosley being placed higher than oscar de la hoya, as he did beat oscar on a big stage at a point in both of their careers before either started to show signs of decline (known around here as their "prime").
i do understand why people question mosley's legacy and reputation, though. there is not a modern fighter whose resume is "unquestionable."Comment

Im sorry, i love Shane, but the same people who say Oscar was overrated are the same people who credit Shane for being a legend. People blame Oscar for "losing every big fight".
Who did Shane beat? He lost all his big fights. He barely beat Oscar, was on the steroids in the rematch (which he still lost by the way), lost to forrest twice, lost to Winky twice, lost to Floyd, lost to Cotto......I just dont see the logic if people are gonna dog Oscar.
Oscar was the pretty boy that had skills, so everyone hated him (ala Lebron). Shanes biggest win is aginst Margs. People mention, "well he beat Leija, Rivera, Cazallo and what not, but no one cares that Oscar beat Ruelas, Leija, Quartey, Vargas, Genaro Hernandez (though i never saw that fight :< ), Cammacho, ect. Lets be real, Oscar BEAT TITO.
I think yall know where im going with this. I just see so many inconsistencies that its ridiculous. Then again, when your a pretty boy poster child, you have more doubters than people who will respect you for no reason other than they cant stand the fact that one is so popular and sucnessful, so they look for any tiny detail to attack. Floyd has that problem as did Kobe and now Lebron, and Pac.
Me and a buddy were discussing so just thought i share my thoughts.Comment

Mosley had a pretty good resume. he fights the best opponents available and fight bigger guys. a future hall of famer. i dont believe he is overrated. had he won those big fights he would have been in top 15 ATG's. too bad though he lost almost every big fights he had in his career. same goes with Dela Hoya. they are both definitely a future HALL OF FAMERS.Comment
