  • Comments Thread For: Golden Boy President Wants To Eliminate All Competition

During a lengthy interview with Broadcasting Cable, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya discussed the future of boxing and the necessary direction to fix the ongoing problems in the sport. In the opinion of De La Hoya, the sport of boxing has to be run like any other sport. There needs to be one promoter calling the shots and making the cards, and De La Hoya says that entity needs to be Golden Boy.

Already saw it coming, but it's going to be incredibly tough to knock off the competition. But it really is the best solution.

What I don't like is that monthly PPV comment, that **** would be terrible. 1 every 2 or 3 months is good though.

This is what Golden Boy said when they first started. That they would be different, that they would get rid of the competition and put on top notch shows.

Instead we got hopkins vs Jones, Mora vs Mosley, 2 Diaz vs Malignaggi, Juarez vs anyone, Ortiz forced down our throat, Vivian Harris, Nate Campbell, Haye fighting a bunch of scrubs, Joan Guzman who no one wants to watch, Joel Casamyor who has been out of his prime a long time ago, Danny Jacobs fighting no scrubs.

and in the meantime GBP has killed more good fights than they have actually made. When you look back at it, you really can't find a whole bunch of good events that GBP has been involved in.

And now these mother ****ers not only tried to steal Pacman but they are trying to sue Top Rank over it. GBP is WORSE than Don King. Don King always put on good events and good fights at least.

The only good thing GBP has done is there fights they stream on their website. Those fights are usually pretty entertaining, everything else about that company is terrible.

UFC does it and it's successful, a lot of the times its some of the best against some of the best. Something that lacks in boxing.

Besides, most people on here stream **** anyways so why cry over it being PPV??

He's got the concept down, but not with his company. It should be one commission with everyone involved with one title per division. It'll never happen though, that's cutting alot of people out.

Goldenboy should just buy all the promotinal companies. One company for
                  boxing would be better.

Instead of trying to do monthly PPV. It would be more beneficial for the sport to find a way to get boxing into network television.

Now it would hard to get some of the A listers and true moneymakers to put on network television since they would demand too much money. However, you could put Olympians, prospects, up and comers, lower tier rank fighters in network TV and IMO could work and give more exposure to the sport.

Having a monthly PPV might work for UFC but I think it is bad business for boxing. Last year you had 3 major PPVs and they all did 900k or higher. However, in 2006( I think) that year they had at least 8 major PPVs and a lot of them failed.

I never thought boxing would die. But, if Oscar/GBP and Greenburg are the main people in charge of boxing. Then yes I think boxer would suffer its death.

Hopefully this will never ever happen.
