How can there be a rivalry of quality. without taking into consideration the quantity of ppl needed to produce quality.

read it a few times , youll get it , I know its confusing.
I get this and agree to an extent..
See we're talking about individual athletes here not some team. And while one country produces more fighters, it's not some kind of trial and error type thing where if you make enough of them, you'll eventually get it right.

I think that applies more toward like the Brazil vs Argentina soccer rivalry in a collective way where Argentina gets one better national team than brazil for every 4 Brazilian teams

Anyway back to boxing... I don't think the fact that one country has a higher ratio of champions matters too much because we're looking at it in an individual level..
I'm sure if PR was as big as Mexico they'd have their share of tomato cans

a lot of those guys are just journeymen trying to eke out a living in the sport, theyre not serious contenders. if mexico didnt have a great boxing legacy, prs and filipinos wouldnt keep track of every time one of their fighters pads their record with a victory over a mexican journeymen.

I know how to separate a good win against a quality opponent , against a win against a nobody.

But that statement abou their trying to make a living out of the sport is completely bs.

Most of those guys want to make it big. I know there are a few cases. But seriously. Ricans , and even mexicans pad their records with mostly mexican tomato cans.

Funny how the *******s have worried for years about the challenge that the small Island of PUERTO RICO has been putting on them!!!!! They love to glorify SINGLE wins from their fighters, Sanchez>Gomez, Tony>Cotto, JJC>Camacho, but always forget of the mulit beatings Gomez put on a lot of their heros: Pintor, Zarate, etc..and not including all the chicanos he KO'D.. Camacho> Limon, Ramirez, etc.. and not including all the chicanos he KO'D!!!! It's no contest VATOS!!!!! PUERTO RICANS OWN YOUR ASS! Get use to it already cause it aint going to change.

I've always loved the Puerto Rico/Mexico rivalry and i think its great in our sport.
I never take it too personal and i think its fun when the people go back and fourth, It keeps the competitive juices flowing and I love that.

As long as no one gets to deuchebaggy its all good in my opinion.

yeah, cause I'm using logic, and you are using favoritism. you want to talk accomplishments?

check the list of fighters that have one or more belts in 3 different divisions.

mexico has 7 ( chavez, de la hoya, tapia, morales, barrera, marquez, montiel)

de la hoya and tapia where listed as americans, but I'll give you that.

pr has 6 (benitez, gomez, camacho, vasquez, trinidad, cotto)

wilfredo benitez was the youngest ever champion at the tender age of 17.

puerto rico has had a champion/titlist in ever single division.

                    heavy-john ruiz
                    cruiser- carlos de leon
                    light heavy-jose torres
                    supermiddle-manny siaca
                    middle- trinidad
                    light middle-benitez
                    welterweight-benitez
                    superlightweight-benitez

                    bantam-julian solis

                    fly-eric morel
                    lightfly-jose de jesus
                    strawweight-alex sanchez

but that counts for nothing, right?

and what exactly makes jcc better than tito all time? please explain it to me.

as far as I'm concerned they're pretty even. the only people who have him in higher standard are the ones who glorify his bloated ass record.

mexican boxing in the last three decades has caught up to pr, and some could argue has surpassed. they've got alot of young fighters coming up. and it looks like pr is falling off, but mexico has a hell of alot bigger population than pr, so there's that math.

and those that act like pr's accomplishments pale in comparison, clearly have a bias.

and mr.lucci, it was a pretty inflammatory title, bro. these discussions never end well because someone eggs the other side on.

it seems almost unfair to judge considering PR has a far less population than mexico, me being from mexico city myself I understand why there are so many boxer's. The people are dirt poor, from where I came from 3 people in my neighborhood were pro fighters. That doesn't mean they were any good but they were trying to better themselves.

PR is more financially stable than 3/4 of the mexican population.
