Thats why when Merchant brought up Cotto's name Mayweather said he wants to retire from boxing and doesnt want boxing to retire him and then proceeded to retire only to return to fight the much smaller JMM after Cotto lost.
U just started watching boxing, buddy; in Cotto's so-called prime, Mayweather moved up from 135 to140 and asked for Cotto, Hatton, and Kostya Tszyu...none wanted to fight him. After they witnessed what happened to Arturro, Cotto's team said Cotto was too "green," Hatton said said a Hatton wasn't "ready" and Kostya Tszyu flat out said no way. I am pretty sure you hear the Hbo team reiterated this, but as all Mayweather haters, you probably conveniently chose to ignore it.

cotto was good in his prime. but lets be serious, hes no more special than diego corrales or jlc, both borderline hofers. cotto is a borderline hofer that just won his first title in the ring this year.

ppl look to discredit mayweather, i think he should have fought cotto. but it wasnt like cotto was jumping out of his seat at the idea of fighting mayweather. in fact, i dont think cotto wanted much to do with mayweather until after the dlh fight. if im wrong, can someone show me how??

castillo is one of my favorite fighters. But even as good as he was I dont think he would have presented the same problems for floyd as cotto would have.

The ones in the bold yes you can make a case. And, I would agree with it. The other 2 no.

Hernandez was on his way out not in his prime at the time.

                And, Judah?

                  Skill for Skill....

It all depends on how "good' people think Cotto really was. He was never this amazing highly skilled beast.

I think that in the bold is overrated.

I don't care how muck skill he has. Skill alone doesn't make you better. Judah never had the intangibles. Judah was never ever better Cotto. EVER............ If he was he would of been more accomplished fighter than he was. I could never see Cotto losing against a guy like Baldomir or losing to light hitting Spinks. Yes Judah got him in the rematch but Cotto wouldn't need a rematch. Not even at 140 were Cotto punch resistance was all that. To I see him get taking out in 2 rounds against Kostya. Cotto would have been smarter than that. A prime Cotto was better than Judah hands down.
