I don't think should at all.

He fought and beat no matter what people think it was a close fight that he got the win against Joshua Clottey was stripped cuz he chose to fight Cotto instead of his mandatory Hlatswayo. He also beat Shane Mosley who was just coming off a convincing win against Luis Collazo.

True Foreman was the only title holder at the time Cotto faced him. But, Cotto beat other fighters who were better than the title holders at the time. So I don't think it should or will hurt his legacy at all.
