Comments Thread For: Golden Boy, Top Rank Prepare For Major Legal Battle

The two largest boxing promoters in the United States are once again preparing for battle in a legal ring. On Tuesday, Golden Boy Promotions filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of Nevada against Top Rank Promotions, Top Rank CEO, Bob Arum, and Top Rank CFO David Lopez, accusing the duo of racketeering and fraud and seeking damages in the range of $3 to $5 million plus attorneys fees related to money generated from three Manny Pacquiao fights.

Funny that Manny's lawsuit against Schaefer and DLH is for $5 million. This is more or less a counter-suit, which will be counter-suited by TR when they push for sole promotional rights to Pac's career since GBP did not act in their partial client's best interest and potentially hurt him financially and damaged his reputation with their baseless PED accusations.

In the end, this whole issue will probably go to mediation and be settled out of court- something along the lines of both sides drop their lawsuit (but Manny still pursues the Mayweathers in court) and GBP's promotional stake in Pac ends. But if GBP goes forward with both cases in court, look for TR to at least get GBP out of the Manny sweepstakes and Schaefer/DLH to cough up $5 mil to Manny.

Very insightful post. A lot of posters in other threads about this story have been making knee-jerk responses based on their personal dislike of Arum, but it ain't that simple.
