ok so never let me see you defend Zab or Floyd if they ever get in trouble and hug their opponent -
Normally I would agree with you, but Steele had to know there was less than 5 seconds in the fight. There wasn't even enough time for Chavez to cross the ring, people were on their feet and knew it all he had to do was let the bell toll. Everyone in the arena knew it, except for Richard Steele. He ruined Taylor's career.Originally posted by kallsopThe ref is not responsible for keeping track of the 3 minute clock, although they do now get a 10 second left warning. If the fight had gone on and JCC had clocked MD into McLellan land with the next punch, the armchair refs would be demanding to know why Steele allowed the fight to continue. It's a no win situation for Steele, and as all refs should do, he protected the fighter first. He looked into Taylors eyes, something NOBODY else was in a position to do, and saw a beaten man that was not fit to continue.
I'm no big fan of Steele, but he saw something that told him MD was finished and continuing was too dangerous. Subsequent MD fights told us that he was indeed finished.
And it wasn't the punsihment that destroyed Taylor by a long shot. He went into serious fits of depression and it took him a long time to even get back in the ring after that. He felt like his whole career was stolen from him, and he was right. Any other ref in that situation, even JAY NADY, would have given him those last 2 seconds. Come on, Taylor wasn't on the verge of death or anything, he beat the count. He was exhausted, but that doesn't mean he was damaged.
I know its not the refs job to keep track of the clock, but there is no way in HELL he didn't know there wasn't enough time for Taylor to get knocked down again.Comment

First of all, he didn't KNOCK TAYLOR OUT. If you've seen the fight, you'd know that. Taylor was on his feet. He was cherent, he was even talking to Steele and the second the fight was waved off he was pissed.Originally posted by DiegoFuegowhat the HELL are you talking about? that is one of the worst statements I've ever read in my life. since when are wins GIVEN? you TAKE wins, and that's what Chavez did that night. Don't blame Taylor's mistake on Richard Steele either. I can't believe people call this a robbery. If you knock a guy out, it doesn't matter how much time is left on the clock, you win the fight as long as the punch came before the final bell.
I think anybody that says Taylor was robbed in this fight only says that based on what Taylor is like now, but NOBODY knew at the time of that fight, it would have turned out this bad for Taylor. I think everybody crying over this fight doesn't deserve to be called a boxing fan, and frankly I'm sickened to hear this from a fellow Judah fan. grow up
And you tell this guy to grow up, while you say "everybody crying over this fight doesn't deserve to be called a boxing fan"
Yeah, maybe you should heed your own advice. I'm so sick of people saying **** like that.
People have these things called OPINIONS. They're entitled to think what they want. Maybe this is why the boxing fanbase has decreased to what it is.
Oh no, this guy doesn't agree with me, he's doesn't deserve to be called a boxing fan!!

I hate how people deny the fact that Taylor got robbed. He was wining the fight easily, and then at the start of the 12th round everythign went wrong for him. The first problem was his trainers telling him to fight the 12th round. Then he got knocked down by a good punch, and then when he beats the count his corner distracts him when steele is trying to talk to him. Then steele calls the fight with 2 seconds left. The fight was stolen from him. Regardless of what Chavez fans think. He was battered no doubt, but the guy was up on his feet and deserves the win. The guy got ****ed over. By his corner, by the ref. No matter how many times I see it Ill always think that.Comment
