Lupe Pintor-Johnny Owens, Owens was ko'd and was unconcious for two months, finally his parents gave the authorization to pull the plug on him. Very tragic indeed.

The ref is not responsible for keeping track of the 3 minute clock, although they do now get a 10 second left warning. If the fight had gone on and JCC had clocked MD into McLellan land with the next punch, the armchair refs would be demanding to know why Steele allowed the fight to continue. It's a no win situation for Steele, and as all refs should do, he protected the fighter first. He looked into Taylors eyes, something NOBODY else was in a position to do, and saw a beaten man that was not fit to continue.

I'm no big fan of Steele, but he saw something that told him MD was finished and continuing was too dangerous. Subsequent MD fights told us that he was indeed finished.

Agree 100% with your analysis. Taylor fought spectacular and was winning the fight. Yet at that moment in time, when Chavez pounded him in the 12th, Taylor lost his "boxing soul". You could see it his eyes. He was DONE! Too bad about the outcome, but Chavez never quit.
