What Are The Most Tragic Fights In History?

What are your most tragic fights in history and why.

A few of mine would be Holmes-Ali, Holyfield-Toney, and not to mention fights that resulted in a fatality.

            MEldrick Taylor Vs. JCC

They could have at least gave him that win . He was never the same fighter after that fight . THe real tragedy is that he still thinks he can fight .

Agreed. I felt horrible watching that last round. His corner was 100% wrong by telling him he had to win that round. All the kid had to do was run away for that round and the belt was his. Seeing him now is just depressing, I'm guessing he just can't live down that moment. How can you forget something like that? His dream was just 3 minutes away.

And Richard Steele(I think it was him) still to this day doesn't get why he was wrong for stopping that fight, when the bell would have sounded as soon as he told them to fight again.

The ref is not responsible for keeping track of the 3 minute clock, although they do now get a 10 second left warning. If the fight had gone on and JCC had clocked MD into McLellan land with the next punch, the armchair refs would be demanding to know why Steele allowed the fight to continue. It's a no win situation for Steele, and as all refs should do, he protected the fighter first. He looked into Taylors eyes, something NOBODY else was in a position to do, and saw a beaten man that was not fit to continue.

I'm no big fan of Steele, but he saw something that told him MD was finished and continuing was too dangerous. Subsequent MD fights told us that he was indeed finished.

                  Gabriel Ruelas vs Jimmy Garcia

Garcia died and Ruelas was never the same again.

I agree, that is the first fight that comes to mind when someone asks about a boxing tragity. Both fighters left the ring a shadow of the men that walked in. McClellan was at the cusp of greatness when his carreer, and almost his life, was cut short. Benn fought again but never at the same level.
