Solid article. Regardless of what you think about the state of the heavyweight division, there has never been a more dominant heavyweight champ than Wladimir. The guy is dominant and wins all these fights with ease, against top contenders and has an outstanding finishing rate. He hardly even loses a round. Vitali and Wlad have never been out-boxed. Ever. That is an amazing feat.
I've noticed more and more notable writers finally jumping ship and giving credit where credit is due. That has to make Klit detractors nervous. It makes their work more difficult of regurgitating the same talking points of how weak the heavyweight division is, and how average the Klit brothers are.Comment

if you want to criticize the era, by all means do it. it is certainly weak in comparison to its glory days. but i do think adamek and thompson would have been competent in most eras, and wlad/vitali would have been in the mix of the top guys - if not on top in any era. what ever - there are several threads about this one in the world boxing lounge or what ever, agree or disagree.
What will hurt Wlad the most is that all of his losses occurred when the division was deep and talented. Corrie Sanders was ranked in the teens back then! Imagine if Sanders existed today he would easily supplant a softy like adamek or Povetkin.
I believe the reason Wlad is on top is because he was the youngest guy of that last superior era. He was 27 years old when Lennox, Tyson, and their awesome contemporaries got old or left the sport.
Any top 5 guy from the Lennox/Tyson regime would be dominating this toilet bowl of an era. Do you believe Prime Holmes or Prime Evander would have any problems with a slow Sam Peter, or flabby Tony Thompson? None of these guys have actual boxing skills, and the few that do are too feather fisted to do any damage.
Wlad went from fighting Men to fighting boys, nothing more.Comment

To further your point, Dan Rafael's assessment of Wlad's fight on the weekend:Solid article. Now [Wladimir] has made nine defenses, unified belts, claimed the lineal title and barely lost a round along the way. Titlist David Haye has blatantly ducked him. Mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin turned his back on a $2 million-plus payday (the result of a purse bid) to avoid him, thus handing the fight to Peter. The only heavyweight in the world on Klitschko's level right now is his brother, Vitali, who also holds a belt. But they'll never fight, they say, because of a promise they made their mother. So Wladimir continues to mow down challenger after challenger, and it's not like he's facing stiffs. He's systematically cleaning out the top 10, albeit a weak top 10. But he can only fight the guys in his era, and he's crushing them with ease.

I can only guess, but I think he meant champions... Well, personally I would...Not quite.
Wlad still needs some to top this guy:

I don`t think that it is much worthy to bring up Eschs` 58 KOs in the same sentence with Dempsey, Louis, Klitschko, Foreman... even Carnera...Comment

depends on how you take it
I thought he was refering to the fact that Wlad is the first champion to get 50 KOs in a long time, hence the reference to Dempsey
but I guess we can take it as you took it too, taking the mass of heavyweights in its whole in consideration, even though it is more impressive to get 50 KOs as a champion than to get 50 + KOs as a journey man...
my bad...

Whatever is the case Mike Tyson most likely would have had 50 KO's if he didn't go to jail and George Foreman started his career just before 1970. So I reckon it's entirely possible and even most likely that we'll see a HW champ with 50 KO's in the future regardless of the championship distance being cut from 15 to 12 rounds.Comment

He's british, and you hit the nail on the head, he used to be one of the most rabid Gaye defenders around, and when Gaye's ducking became obvious, it drove him over the edge and now all he does is trollI don't get this guy? He does nothing but ***** and complain about the Klit brothers competition yet he seems to tout Joe Calzaghe as one of the all time greatest. Newsflash Joey: If you compared Joe's record to that of the Klit brothers. I guarantee you that they have beat a hell of lot more top ten in their prime fighters than Calzaghe ever dreamed of doing. And I am even a Calzaghe fan. And I wonder if you happen to be British and your attack on the Klit brothers is some kind misdirected anger because one of your heroes, David Haye, has tuned out to be such a wuss?
