Gamboa should get a new trainer to help with his flaws.

I agree. I get the feeling people are sleeping on him already. The dude is beyond talented. Whoever thinks ANY fighter has an easy night with him is kidding themselves.Even Floyd does it to an extent.
Always starts off the fight, very defensive and testing the opponents capabilities..
By round 5 when the fight is in complete control... you see Floyd start to drop both of his hands to his side, waiting for his opponent to do something.
Rarely do you see this happen in round 1, or before he gets a good sense of what the opponent can do.
So far, nobody has been able to really pose a serious threat to Gamboa over the course of 12 rounds.... so up until now... it's hands in his pockets, until someone does bring that threat... and when that happens, I think we see a more technical "distance style" Gamboa.
Hes basically saying Im bored and I need a challenge. I can see how it was hard to get up for this fight, especially when Rojas goes out with an injury. Had this been Elio like it was suppose to be you wouldve seen a diffent Gamboa.Comment

That's a dangerous practice - especially since he's never been in the ring with an elite fighter. I tend to think his flaws are his flaws. The thing about Gamboa is that he's almost 30. These things should have disappeared ages ago. They haven't and I suspect they never will. I still give him a good shot but wouldn't bet against Lopez or Caballero flattening him.Comment

no one will change Yuri that's the way he fights. He can enhance some of the things he does in there but to be honest his showboating doesn't concern me because I think it's something to keep him occupied
what worries more is his willingness to exchange square and guard down. That's how most of his opponents get to himComment

remember Eddie Hopson? super quick...had some flaws...looked good against B-level competition..then they put his ass in there against Tracy Patterson and those 'flaws' became his downfall...im sure it wasn't a 'motivation' thing either when Patterson dismantled himComment

I don't remember Hopson but I remember Patterson. I see what you're saying and I agree. I suspect it's gonna look like Gamboa's cape has permanently dropped off the more we see him against elite opposition. His performance against Salido was...ehhh.remember Eddie Hopson? super quick...had some flaws...looked good against B-level competition..then they put his ass in there against Tracy Patterson and those 'flaws' became his downfall...im sure it wasn't a 'motivation' thing either when Patterson dismantled himComment

Gamboa reminds me of Hopson...i was on the Hopson wagon until the 'slower' but more polished Patterson ripped him...look at around 30secs...exchanging with his chin up

I hear you. But Dirrell's flaws aren't Gamboa's. How many times was Dirrell dropped by nobodies?Comment
