From what I am told by good sources, both camps are trying to get out of the fight and Showtime is threatening legal action because if the fight does not come off, the tournament goes down the drain.

Andre Ward won't fight another contender outside of Oakland, because he needs a home referee who permits him to hit while holding, and use deliberate headbutts.

Ward should have lost by disqualification in the Kessler fight. That last blatently deliberate headbutt may have permanently damaged Mikkel.

I think the tournament is going fine. What happened to Taylor and Kessler are expected in this sport.

But if both Ward and Dirrell back out over being to scared to fight one another than the tourny will be a failure. This fight is not only the biggest fight in the tourny of date, but it crowns who is truly the best American Middleweight.

And by the looks of it they are both so good neither of them want to take the chance of losing to one another.

I don't think this fight being canceled has as much to do with the venue as it has to do with the two fighters' friendship. Shame, but the indications have been there for a while that this fight wasn't going to happen.

I blame Ward more than Dirrell. Dirrell was willing to fight Froch in the UK. Ward meanwhile has had both fights in his hometown with a home ref that allows him to use dirty tactics. Without that home ref, he's in deep trouble because holding and hitting is a key part of his arsenal.

Ward's got much more to lose and Dirrell has a lot to gain from the fight. I think Ward's camp is being the more problematic with it happening.
