I see where you guys are coming from but I'll spin it this way.

Who was Boxings biggest star and an African American that didt need to talk trash.

    That guy was Ray Leonard.

That was a long ass time ago.

Look at Tyson. Trash talker. One of the biggest stars EVER.

Look at Winky, Mosley, Williams, Dawson, etc.

The last big star that was black to not talk trash was back in the 80's. Floyd watched all these guys before him bomb out their star power. Especially Mosley.

That smile and kiss babes routine doesnt work with black boxers its just the truth.

I'm actually beginning to think that all of this "back and forth" between the two camps may actually turn people away from the fight.

Sure ; it's still the biggest fight to be made in boxing, and it's definitely going to smash PPV records. But this time last year I was thinking this fight could easily sell 3 million buys on PPV.

But with all this bickering, "are they gonna fight?", "are they not gonna fight?", "he's on steroids", "I'm on vacation", and now these racist comments ; I think people might be turned off.

It'll still set the record for most PPV buys, without a doubt. (Assuming of course it gets made.)

But that 3 million prediction of mine from a year ago? Looking a little flimsy to me now.

It's kinda like when you're a kid, and two dudes are gonna scrap on the playground, and everybody's all excited.

Then something happens, that postpones it, and it goes on that way for a while.

By the time the dudes actually do throw down, nobody really cares anymore.

        You know?

They should've struck while the iron was at it's hottest.

He doesn't need to act a certain way or play some role to be recognized, he is recognized because of his amazing skill which I don't for one second doubt.

I have gone on record to say that I think Mayweather beats Pacquaio but that's not what this is about. It's about what Mayweather's potential is, it's not about how much money he has made but how much he COULD have made.

Mayweather could be the next SRL but he will never be because of his actions and that's the point, something you guys are missing.

I understand you guys are fans of Mayweather, I get you guys are unable to differentiate between your personal feelings and an unbiased opinion.....I get that.

That's one of the reasons NSB has gone to s.hit because it's 10,000 threads about how Pac is a steroid user and how Floyd is a coward.

I am not a huge fan of his out of ring stuff and never said i was.

All i am saying is that he wouldn't have made as much as he has today or be as "popular" if it wasn't for his antics. The recent stuff may have gone to far but in the past i am talking.

He doesn't have the style which would help him get the casual fans money imo if it wasn't for the way he plays up as the bad guy. He can cry all he wants about not being popular but i wouldn't give a **** if i were him and made all that money. If he beats Pacquiao and Martinez he goes into the top 25 atg in my book anyway despite his antics outside the ring

so how come he's getting evicted, sued for non payments, having cars repo'd by the banks?

24/7 made him. He didn't have to play the role he played on there. He did that of his own volition. He still would've come out a star just for having been on that show, and winning that fight.

What you're trying to do is sit there and say "he wouldn't have been as big a star if he hadn't played the bad guy role", and you can't say that.

                You can't.

Because you don't know that. Neither do I.

So unless you want to go get Doc Brown, get in the DeLorean, and go back in time ; your argument is a strawman.
I disagree Floyd's path was laid out before the Oscar fight, he could have tried to go a different route after but with how he played the Gatti fight (the Baldomir fight to a lesser degree) and then going against Oscar it only made sence for Floyd to go the bad guy route again. Once you do something three times people tend to remember that, so he was doomed at that point to his current fate.

You can say he type cast himself into that role but if the shoe fits why not, he played that role in his biggest fight so it is concievable that he thought that was what people wanted from him and really there are no other bad guys like him in the sport which is why a fight against the white hat Manny will be such a big deal, you know people eat up that good vs. evil bullshit (it is straight WWE but that **** works).

I think it's safe to assume that Mayweather's "controversial" (****ish) antics keep his name in the media and raise his profile. All publicity is good publicity, and all that.

Remove his asshole image and you remove half his media coverage. He could have been even bigger if he were better at being a **** though. If someone blessed with the gift of the gab, Paulie Malignaggi for example, had Mayweather's boxing ability, I think they'd find themselves on an even higher media platform than Floyd sits on currently.

But, hey, you can't have it all. Ultimately what put Floyd where he is was the fact that he's pretty good at boxing.

Exactly this **** is on point and what i have been trying to get over for a few pages now. Especially when you think that Mosley and Williams have the kind of styles which would entertain casual fans, all action and knockouts etc.

I just don't think a black fighter can get a huge fan base for whatever reason acting like Mosley, Williams and co
