Who was Boxings biggest star and an African American that didt need to talk trash.

    That guy was Ray Leonard.

That was a long ass time ago.

Look at Tyson. Trash talker. One of the biggest stars EVER.

Look at Winky, Mosley, Williams, Dawson, etc.

The last big star that was black to not talk trash was back in the 80's. Floyd watched all these guys before him bomb out their star power. Especially Mosley.

That smile and kiss babes routine doesnt work with black boxers its just the truth.

Name me ONE good black fighter who has raked **** in over the last 10 years who has played a good nice down to earth guy i beg you.. cause there has been many many great black fighters over that time and none have done anywhere near the business Mayweather has = FACT
Your problem is that you're limiting my choices to "good black fighters" that "raked **** in over the last 10 years".

Boxing is nowhere near as popular as it once was, so you know damn well I can't give you that guy, because aside from Floyd ; he doesn't exist.

But I can give you a bunch of good black athletes who've done just that.

You limit the scope to boxing because you know that apart from Floyd, no other man exists within the boxing realm.

Therefore you win due to the way you construct the argument.

Well, you would've ; had I not just exposed it.

By the way - whoever said Tyson was a crossover star because he played the bad guy ; that's only half right.

Only post prison did he play the bad guy.

He was a crossover star long before that, playing the rold of humble Champion throughout the 1980's.

It wasn't until his life fell apart that he started to play the role of "bad guy".

Think of the community these fighters are comming from and how the values of said community have changed over the course of boxing history.

I don't know if it is currently possible to be a goody two-shoes and be popular in the African-american community, it wasn't always like that either.

I limit it to the sport of boxing as that is Floyd's field so why would i ask you to name some other black athlete who is in a more popular sport?? like you said boxing is nowhere near as popular as it was.

Yet Floyd with his bad guy act has sold millions unlike fellow talented black fighters who play nice but don't make big money.

He was only played the bad guy post **** but he was only really humble pre Robin Givens, also lets not act like Tyson was not a real villian before getting with Cus.

Tyson was much more of a real villain than Floyd will ever be.

That's definitely true, as well. A very salient point on your part.

My point is just that he's trying to limit me to a crossover black boxer within the last decade.

And apart from Floyd ; there hasn't been one, and he knows that.

Had he said "black athlete", he would've lost with utter certainty.

True, but his public personna throughout the 80's was fairly mild. He smiled, did lots of interviews, was always nice with the media, etc...

Once 1990 rolled around, all that **** went out the door, but you know how that went.

But that's your entire problem ; you're saying Floyd can't be nice and be popular because he's black.

That's a pretty ignorant statement, if you ask me.

I can give you dozens of well liked, respected, black athletes who've made tons of cash in the last decade by being nice guys, but you want to limit it to boxing.

Which you know damn well is a niche' sport, and has less appeal to the general sports fan than competitive eating.

And doing that is akin to saying "I want you to dribble this basketball.....without using your arms".

My Point Exactly!!! You see this **** even with the young black fighters, guys like Paul Williams get over looked, he is a good guy, Timothy Bradley is a very classy guy he don't get much love either, Tyson changed the landscape for Black Fighters for the BAD even ESPN doing a 30 for 30 thing about the relationship between Mike Tyson and Tupac, seems like for Black Fighters you basically have to be the BAD GUY and you have to get the Hip Hop Community behind you to become a star in boxing

and I don't want to here about the style BS because even the Black fighters who do stand and fight like Paul Williams still get disrespected and overlooked, MOSLEY got over looked and Mosley always had that "MEXICAN WARRIOR STYLE" and was still got overlooked so clearly it takes more then just style in ring for a black fighter to become a star, not only that but I also think Promoters and Networks are shifting to International Guys who do have entire Countries behind them because they feel they can make more money that way and they are probably right
